PFT speculates that Panthers may go after Jason David

In a move that should surprise no one, the Saints have cut cornerback Jason David.

Saints V.P. of communications Greg Bensel announced the move on his Twitter page.

The handwriting had been on the wall for a while. Some might say it first appeared in David's first appearance with the team, when David was torched on opening night of the 2007 season by his former team, the Colts.

David joined the Saints in 2007 as a restricted free agent. He signed an offer sheet with the Saints, and the Colts opted not to match.

David will now become an unrestricted free agent, and he will be able to sign with any team.

Keep an eye on the Panthers, since former Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks now coordinates the defense there, and the Vikings, where former Colts assistant Leslie Frazier runs the defense.

I wonder what the dialogue was between these idiots...

"hey i heard Jason David got cut"

"did he play for the saints?"

"yes"

"well who would want him?"

"uh, well that Colts DC he worked with before he was with new orleans is now DC for carolina"

"I THINK WE GOT AN ARTICLE!"

"SWEET. I'LL WRITE THAT UP REAL QUICK AND YOU CAN GET THE KY JELLY SO WE CAN STROKE OURSELVES TO OUR PHENOMENAL FOOTBALL NEWS REPORTING!"

To be fair to Jason David he did play well in Meeks' system, but no thanks.

It's a valid point. He performed well in the Super Bowl under Meeks and made a lot of free agent money, but in the process he switched to a defense with a different CB approach and was miscast in their system.

So is it possible? Yeah.

Is it likely? All things (like cap room) considered...No :nonod:

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
