Most troubling phrase yesterday....

In the press conference, Rivera said Bell "Did the best he could". He said it more than once.

It seems the Panthers are now settled into the notion that what we see in Byron right now is him at his best, which obviously is not good enough. The optimist in me would have much preferred to hear "Byron will have to go over the tape and get better" or "Byron had an off day, he will be ready to go Thursday".

But after an awful showing, the coach saying thats the best you can do? Ugh.

It appears this team is content with mediocre. Watching other teams adjust, scheme on the fly, and perform just sheds more light on how out of synch this whole franchise is. Sorry, but this fan base isn't happy with mediocre.

Nothing is going to change. It all starts at the top. This team is capable of so much more and it's disheartening to sit back and watch the same mistakes made over and over again and players being misused and/or not used at all.

hurt or not Bell and Chandler are irrelevant to success that is necessary... no excuse for "he tried" in a league where you either get it done or you don't then get replaced. so essentially he let's the plays roll as is and the players as well. smh

Rivera wasn't given the choice for a better player. And Foucalt is not remotely ready. Ugh.

At this point I really would be interested in seeing Norwell out there at LT just for curiosity sake. Maybe an awful idea, but at least that guy has a fire in his belly and is anxious to hit someone.

Our patchwork Oline does not afford us any mistakes on offense because we can't make it up.

In the first half, we ran the ball well, got into the red zone and made mistakes.  Whether it is being flagged for motion or holding or taking a sack or a dropped ball, we just dont have room for mistakes.

We can win some games, but have to be flawless.  That is just the way things are at the moment.

    • Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird.  It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
    • Yeah, but we've seen him do it. Just not often. I think that's the reason for the taller WRs. Would likely be a problem finding someone like Jimmy Horn in the mess.
    • And the Rams, Seattle, Patriots, Green Bay, Jaguars and the Bills who all made the playoffs and in case you forgot, Seattle and the Patriots played in the SB. By any measure, that's pretty brutal.
