Marcus Lattimore is retiring

Hate it for the kid.  McGahee coming back from one of the worst injuries I've ever seen game me hope for the kid, but no two people are the same and no two injuries are the same.  The 49ers rolled the dice and lost, but I'm glad Lattimore got to cash some NFL checks and receive top notch medical care during his rehab process.

Two things:

1) There is also a bit of a rumor that he just wanted out of the organization.  He'd not be the only RB unsatisfied there.  Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde are both above him and would cut his time substantially.

2)  Kind of glad about this.  There was so much hype about how great that team was at RB.  Gore is great, Hyde has underachieved, this guy never was, and so on and so forth.  I can't stand the Harbaugh 9'ers.

I'm hoping that he just wants out of the organization because all of the videos I have seen show he had been rehabbing, running, lifting, etc. since the year he was drafted without problems...

If we can shed DLo this offseason, I'd love for Lattimore to maneuver his way out of there and come on back to the Carolinas, lol.

49ers would have to relinquish the rights to him.

Could conceivably happen, but I wouldn't be too optimistic.

I hate injuries. One of my teammates from 9th to 11th grade was being recruited by several SEC schools all ACC schools. he was projected to be Marylands day one starter at LT (Maryland recruited him from the jump and he liked that) tore every ligament in his left knee. Came back Tore it again. Career over. Scholarship Out.

This was 2002, he was recruited to play and would have been in the backfield with Clarrett.  This guy was graded better then Clarrett, as well.  He was a beast to tackle, he ran like a freaking tank and you had no choice but to go low or get laid out.

2) Drushaun Humphrey, RB/LB, Toledo Rogers, 6-3, 240, 4.43.  The term "freak" is often used to describe him.  Put on an absolute show at the Ohio State camp last summer.  Can play a variety of positions and probably has more athletic ability than Andy Katzenmoyer if that's possible.  Wants to play TB in college.  Already committed to Ohio State.  5/3 update: As most people know by now, Humphrey died of a heart attack on 4/30 after a pickup game of basketball.  My heart goes out to those close to "Big Dru."

    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
    • It was always a matter of time with Cam’s playing style and a shorter shelf life than passers that protect themselves. I suppose Cam could have still been playing in 2028 ten years after the hit took place, but he would need to have evolved as a quarterback and become more of a passer than the dual threat maestro he was. It’s sad because it makes us think of what could have been, but I do feel it was always a matter of time until all the hits took their toll.
