Hornets Vs Hawks Game Thread

Yeah...probably about a 5 minute segment. Had a Lance interview.  Mike Fratello and Grant Hill giving Charlotte a lot of props.  Grant loves the unis.

Good.  I will try to tune in next time.

The only issue I have with the unis, I wish they had pinstripes, true pinstripes.  At least on the teal's.  Oh well.  At least they played this tonite.

We actually agree on this. Kemba should get the majority of the last shots because of his ability to create.

I'm saying that occasionally you've got to shake that up like we did tonight. Opponents scout. When they see that you have the ability to draw up more then one play at the end of the game, it will keep them honest.

I'll use the Panthers as an example. If every time we get in the 10 yard line we draw up a fade to KB, defenses will pick up on it. Sometimes you gotta go to Avant or Cotch in the endzone and use KB as a decoy.

Tonight Kemba was used as a decoy so Lance had a good look. That's all I'm saying.

Football and basketball are two different animals. There is only so much you can do on defense in the NBA.

In college where they don't have illegal defense sometimes you will have ball screen on one side with a stretch 4 or even 3, with a double screen for a shooter on opposite side. But that is usually just to occupy other team's defenders and force them out of the paint.

But 90% of the time the opposing coaches is just going to switch every screen and no help unless you are guarding a pooty shooter.

Sometimes in the NBA if you have a big guard or SF who can shoot over the top of a defender you might isolate in the high post out on the short wing.

But 99% of the time you are going to iso at the top and if you think they will switch you use a pick and roll to iso the big on a guard. If they are going to hedge and try to recover or possibly trap you just waive off screener and iso 1 on 1.

It is just how the NBA is played. Teams with great shot makers like Kobe have more success than teams with average shot makers.

But i haven't watched the game yet. So maybe I should hold off till I actually watch it.

I saw Lance's shot on twitter though. That play has options and Kemba was one of them. He just wasn't open. I don't think he was used as a decoy. He was first option and Marvin to Lance was second option

Kemba was used primarily as a decoy.  There's a reason you have got to watch out for the guy inbounding the basketball.

You're right that play did have options which is the point.  In basketball there must be the threat of a pass to create space.

That's the trademark of the vintage unis, therefore they probably had to ditch it and make an homage to the stripes instead like they did. There needs to be enough of a differentiation between the "vintage" and "modern" jerseys and they did a great job of doing that while still keeping what made the jerseys unique in tact.

It's only a matter of time before we break out the vintage collection. For now, it's a matter of establishing the new brand.

You probably said this when we played the Heat this week.

Look what happened tho...

That's different.

Heat were always the better team against us.

Atlanta games are Murphy's Law. Antic's three last year, and the end of the first overtime this year.

This game never should have come down to a Lance three to win it. But when Lance is trying to get fouled intentionally by the Hawks to extend the game, they call a jump ball (which rarely, if ever happens in that situation.) That gives them another possession. They miss that shot, and on the rebound Kemba knocks it off Millsap, but it's ruled that Kemba stepped out trying to save the ball. With ANOTHER possession, Mike Scott...MIKE SCOTT...drains a three in the corner despite being draped over, and we are going to a second overtime. Whatever could go wrong, did

I'll gladly take the victory, but I can't take these down-to-the-wire games night in and night out. It's exhausting.

Well said.  Pie for you kind sir.
