Got a raise that I have been negotiating on for a while...may buy a Jeep

The popularity of Jeeps has gone thru the roof in recent years and with the emergence of the Wrangler X Unlimited, the basic Wrangler is just now starting to adjust and prices falling a little.

My last Wrangler I had for about 4 years and some guy walks into where I was working and started asking who owned the black one in the parking lot. Someone directed the guy to me and he pulls out a roll of cash and asks me how much I want for it. Needless to say, I called the wife for a ride home after work that night...

I owned a Jeep a few years back. You better start putting money aside for repairs. Those things are a blast to drive, but they guzzle gas and break down.

The newer version of the inline 6 is an exceptionally reliable engine. The 4.0 version intro'd in 1991 and used until about 2000 (not sure of the last year), not so much...

The 4.0 is bulletproof, my girlfriend had a 4.0 Cherokee in college and it was going strong with 400k on the original motor when we sold it.

Nowadays a modern engine in about any vehicle is reliable. It's everything else that breaks. Timing belt, water pump, radiator, e-fan, starter, CSPS, fuel pump, cv joints, axle bearings, wheel bearings, u-joints, and on and on and on. Jeeps are also notorious for electrical problems.

Jeeps, trucks, sports cars, etc... They're all a blast to own and drive. But if you use them for their intended purpose they're gonna break. It's just part of the territory.

What folks are getting for their Wranglers in this part of the state is crazy.  Best "deal" I can find out there has I6, 146k miles, soft top, good wheels and tires, and is $9,990.

It's a damn 2001.  Wild to hold their value that much.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone and we have Taylor Moton inked to a recent extension. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
