Is Amazon prime worth the money?

As a NCDOR agent, you are wrong if you live in NC Amazon charges the state rate. It is not just a sales tax, it is a sales & use tax. The use part is the catch.

Could totally be wrong as I get my information from my wife who shops there often but is wicked sharp in terms of monetary add ons and discrepancies. Getting a new puppy and she bought a bunch of stuff yesterday and proclaimed no sales tax...   I have seen a couple receipts and do not recall a line item for tax so perhaps its embedded in the price and they accrue it and or perform an offsetting remit to the tax authority.  No matter.  From what I have seen the pricing tends to be cheaper than the brick and mortar stores for many items.

 

Will have to look into this further though as you have raised my interest level.  Thanks for the sanity check

Trust me, I dislike this bullpoo. Amazon is a very convenient online shop for all market mechanism that has tons of deals and sales which the ever so money hungry State said hey we want our share, 'not fair for local businesses' to collect sales & use tax but not Amazon so the law started in February unfortunately.

Love it.  I wish I was a better planner though, instead, when I need something it's a right now thing and I have to go to brick and mortars.

I have prime, students can get prime for only $50 a year and I think it is worth it. Extremely fast shipping. And I just don't have time to run all over Charlotte to buy poo. So I'd say the two biggest things are if you buy a lot of poo there like me and want to save time it's totally worth it. If not don't spend money.

if you know someone with prime and just want the free 2  day shipping, just get them to add you as a family member or something and you can at least use the shipping part for free

I'm using my prime free trial through December and am really liking it. I haven't used anything other than free shipping, though.

Amazon prime isn't worth the costs.

 

No individual store has the best price on everything. There are plenty of items on Amazon with high prices, especially in the pantry section. Also ever since Amazon started charging tax they've become uncompetitive when it comes to selling items that are MSRP like newly released video games. Games can be had with no tax on ebay, newegg and other sites that don't charge those fees.

 

In addition Amazon has undermined their own Prime program by offering 'add-on items' which cannot be ordered without the order of other items. Take that into account along with the fact that there are lots of third party sellers on Amazon which you can't use the membership with.

 

And most importantly when you order $35 worth of products you get free shipping. I also already get free shipping on my S&S orders.

I've had it the last two years at $79.  Next year I plan on paying the price increase of $99.  It is a great service.  Totally worth it.

It definitely is worth the money. Not only do you save a ton on shipping, but you also get access to their streaming service, which has a better selection than Netflix.
