Is Dave Gettelmen already the best GM in the south? ?

WOW!!

I think it's too soon still but the results are there.

Early returns have him ahead of the curve. The guy has an unmistakeable eye for talent.

The UDFAs have been a revelation. As a panthers fan with my formative years being the Hurney era seeing results and impact coming from undrafted and late round players with this type of frequency is like sorcery.

Haha winning cures everything doesnt it? No doubt he has a great eye for talent and he's found some gems but lets not forget he was also the guy who had no problem sending out nate chandler and byron bell as our tackles and roman harper and thomas decoud and antoine cason as our secondary

Oh he deserves flak for those moves no doubt. But he was able to get back ups and erase his mistakes by cutting them.

People really need to step back in awe of the situation he inherited--debt, dead money, bad contracts--it was/is a mess.  He has been winning gun fights with a swiss army knife and spit.

I hope you can see what is happening. We are not being built to win a few playoff games and slip back into cap hell.  We are quietly building a very solid football team with talent, good contracts, and character.  Remember when he said (considering he had no money) "You build a roster from the bottom up?"  It seems to be working.

It's widely known that those mistakes he cut were largely pushed by rivera. He wanted veterans on the team. Nobody forced ron to start those guys.

And dave is the one who cut them

Some might say that he didn't have many options.  Nobody said he had no problem doing it, but he did. I don't think for one minute he was happy about it.  However, to do something about it would be to sign Colliins to a big free agent contract (He was benched vs. us) or draft a player like Morgan Moses (and letting Ealy slip away).

Again, he inherited a mess.  I agree that he has a great eye for talent--finding studs on practice squads, undrafted rookies and fourth and fifth rounders not only starting, but turning the ship around.  Future looks bright, my friend.  Winning does cure everything!

I think he's doing a spot on job. However, people tend to be pretty manic about how they judge him.

I agree.  I welcome other opinions and think fans have a right to criticize, but if you do, you can't do so fairly without considering all of the things he has working against him.  He is building with one hand and cleaning up Marty's mess with the other.

All GMs make questionable moves.  When I read that only about 50% of the first round picks in the NFL pan out, It makes me think how good DG is.  The only questionable pick I can think of is Kugbila--a 4th rounder, and he is still working out his health issues.

Star

KK Short

Klein

Kugbila (jury still out--losing hope, but what if...)

That alone is enough to give his first draft high marks.

KBenjamin

Ealy

Turner

Boston'

Benwikere

Well, um, He got better

He has done his best work finding undrafted free agents and bargain bin veterans

    • I think he's gone, and rightfully so, if he turns in another losing record. The "talented roster," regardless of how true or not, is a double-edged sword. If the roster is so much improved now from 202X then why are you still producing losing seasons? On one hand, maybe that's what needs to happen. Have the GM hire the new coach, and then have the new coach pick his guy to run his system. That is typically how it works in the NFL. Not the forced inheritance deal we have had in place.
    • Hinging on Brooks to be our spark...be good if it happens... but not holding my breath....RB next draft. Morgan gambled...it would be a 2 year payoff if thing happened.
    • Only way Canales is fired is if we are attrocious everywhere....  defense /special teams and offense..  There are enough "questions" on if BY9 is the guy that ownership wouldn't fire the coach for "just" mid qb play.  Especially with as talented a roster that has played "well enough" to win some tough football games and hang in there against the top tier of the NFL ...(mostly).   Now total team suckage..yeah .. but I don't see that happening.
