Can we be like Greenbay, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore?

WOW!!

Meaning can Gettelmen be like those GM'S. Make the playoffs every year but still able to get players out of later round picks..

His last draft he got KB at 28th picked and was still able to get 4 starters and 1 contributor with later picks in each round..

Is he good enough as a talent evaluators to be a Ted Thompson Ozzie Newsome type??

In my opinion, GMs start to mess up when they make trades up and try to grab shiny talents. You see how well that worked out for RGIII and others.

It gets them behind, and in a hole, and causes lots of problems.

Teams like Green Bay, Baltimore, and Pittsburg very rarely blow their money on attractive free agents. In my opinion, a lot of those guys are just looking for money and now worried about putting up too many stats after they have been paid. I know they are still very young for life standards too, but most free agents are over 25 and it seems like 30 is a glass ceiling for a lot of players.

Hard to argue that he can't.

1) Has almost tamed the salary cap by not overpaying for free agents and letting other teams over-pay ours

2) Wisely traded Beason to let Luke become the defense's unquestioned MLB and leader

3) Has drafted 6 starters and 2 key back-ups with his 12 available picks, with greater success in his second year cuz our scouts were more knowledgable about what he wanted them to look for. Could be 7 starters if KK is starting, and Ealy will prolly be starting by mid-season next year

4) has brought in more quality UDFAs than any of us had any right to expect

5) cut ties with Smitty, which let Cam be the unquestioned leader on offense and prolly did wonders for our young DBs confidence

6) cut vets so that Ron would be forced to play the rookies he drafted (pure speculation, but I could see Gettleman doing it)

    • They will be if they extend Young but I don't think we're there just yet. Morgan and Canales are tied and I don't believe Tepper is going to go look for a new front office for Bryce as things stand.
    • I was playing around with the ESPN playoff predictor and it shows if 49ers and Rams finish with same record, the Rams hold the tiebreaker.
    • This is my thinking as well. Seattle played as good as they could on defense and Panthers still had a chance until those back to back turnovers.  I don't think the Rams played particularly well in their game against us, alot things went our way in order to win.  Someone pointed out the Rams were bad on the east coast road games and Seattle has been the better road team but they just fought a hard contested game against the Panthers, and now they travel to San Fran this week for their biggest game of the season to determine the division and if they are the overall #1 seed in the NFC or will be traveling for the Wildcard weekend.  If they lose they then travel back cross the country to play a team they've just beaten two weeks ago, not saying they won't be favored against the Panthers but the energy of hosting our first playoff game in 10 years along with the get back effect of having just lost to this team could be huge.
