Gettleman's influence on Rivera?

Let's say come Saturday ol' RR has plans to start Dwill and split the carries between him and Stew. Do you think Getty could/will step in and force/persuade Ron to do the smart thing?

Sorry, I wouldn't put it past Rivera to do something as absurd as this. Just wondering if our GM would do something about it.

No.  The GM doesn't get to make those decisions.  The only real way he could stop Rivera from starting D-Will would be to release him.  Will he maybe talk to Rivera?  I don't know, depends on what their working relationship is like.

I dont know if anyone actually knows how much influence Gettleman has had on the coaches decisions the last 2 seasons. He has been in the league a long time I'm sure by now he knows the ins and outs of how a team should be run. Typically GMs don't have much influence on roster decisions or game plans but who knows maybe Gettleman has been the puppet master behind these last 2 seasons, I doubt it but it does make me wonder because a lot of Riveras time here he has seemed like an incompetent coach.

No.  I think Gettlemen's influence on RIvera is that he can pretty much trust the players he picks.  RR has been afraid of rookies, but Gettlemen's draft picks, free agent acquisitions, and undrafted rookies have had an increased role--and that increase seems to be directly related to the recent win streak.  If you think about it, think of it this way: Of the players that started or had a key role during the past four weeks:

8 were 2013 or 2014 draft picks--5 are rookie draft picks.

3 starters are undrated rookies (most teams hope for 3 starters from their entire draft class)

3 key contributors were plucked from practice squads during the year.

 

That constitutes nearly half of the players involved in the win streak (excluding special teams). 

 

I think Gettlemen's quality of players might open RR's mind about playing rookies and unproven players.

Unless you're JJ, GMs don't do this kinda thing.  Coaches in today's NFL are figureheads that move pieces around that GMs provide.  If DWill is healthy, expect him to play.  RR is too much like Fox in this regard, giving veterans the ball when they shouldn't be getting it.  That said, our OL is playing well right now, and DWill has that big play ability.

The key word there is "had"...Deangelo hasn't had anything close to a burst for at least a year now.

Stewart's been running well and deserves the start. Williams will get some carries if he's ready, and I imagine whoever's getting the most yards will get the most touches. Gman manages the team, not the games.

Lol OP Rivera is way smarter than you are giving him credit for. JStew's been running well because the O-line has been blocking well.

 

Also worth noting DWill could probably hit some home runs with the way the O-line's been blocking.

Sorry but Dwill is not the same player he was. It's time to face the music. Fozzy is a better RB than him at this point and is effective in the screen game as well.

As far as coaches not wanting to come here, how many of them would be clueless enough to even consider giving Williams a lot of carries thus not even entertaining the situation.

No a HC is paid to make those calls........however, that stated, it wouldn't surprise me if off the record a HC might talk to his GM and ask for their feedback from time to time......
