Someone Finally "Gets" Cam Newton

What Rivera says there is so key -- for Newton, it's all about being relaxed and having a good time.

So many just don't get that about him. They see him do his Superman celebration when he scores a touchdown and point down the field when the team gets a first down and they think he's showcasing arrogance. But really, he's just playing around. Newton is a big kid -- not in an entitled, Johnny Manziel way, but in a joyful, all-for-the-love-of-the-game way. He works hard and keeps his drama to a minimum -- note how controversy-free his reign at Carolina has been so far -- but he is at his best when he remembers that this game is supposed to be fun. That's when he's able to lead, to improvise, and to do everything that makes him such a special quarterback.

Can someone please inform the rest of the media?

One thing I learned about Americans is that they dislike super confident individuals.  They want to see you do your job and shut the hell up or act like nothing happened. They want you to make a great play then pretend to be intensely docile and focused on the next play.  People dont like seeing people having more fun than them.  Deon Sanders would have been hated here in Carolina too.

That is my favorite part about Newton, his smile and genuine love for the game and life.  People hated his "icon" statement, but I loved it.

For ONCE in Carolina we have a guy that gets true media exposure. Commercials, Best Selling Jerseys, Clothing Lines/ Shoes etc.

I'm not saying that's more important to me than winning, but having a guy that makes winning even more fun is amazing. Seeing people do trademarks like the "SuperCam" pose is something we've never had.  Smith being the closest but his personality was that of a villain to many.

I also say this while noting that it can be his downfall.  When Cam began to get frustrated last night I honestly got nervous.  We've seen him get antsy and force things that shouldn't be before.  Thank Goodness at the end that smile came back, and now he's on to the next.

Those two long 3rd down runs last night saved the game for us IMO. He didn't get up smiling or pointing like he does on first down conversions. He got up with intensity and determination to put the team on his back. Whoever Cam needs to be to be successful for the Carolina Panthers, I'll take it.

So basically Americans are like robots so they want everybody else to be robots? Sounds bout right.

That also may be why he was a little off last night. (Rainy conditions too)

Cam and Rivera balance each other out

Sure Cam makes mistakes, but he has a big heart and desire to win.  Yesterday he gave up himself when he ran for  firstdowns  when we most needed  them.

Cam will find a way to win and has taken this team on his shoulders. He is just starting to mature and be a leader.

I love Cam but he almost cost the game last night as well

In the NFL, wide open receivers don't happen that often, and when they do, he must hit them.

I believe a valid point was made by Jaws several months ago that the Panthers style of offense hurts Newton and hurts his growth and he is asked to do too much and as the games wears on he wears down.

I don't know what the reason is but it has got to be fixed if the Panthers expect to continue he to win

Bear in mind I was at the game, the tape may show some thing different then I saw on the field and replays

    • I swear Morgan didn't have 1st(#1 overall) or a 2nd rounder in this rebuild.......Then his first 2nd rounder that he gave up two 5ths for is now out for basically 2 years..... Football is not forgiving....
    • This. They better not even think about bringing him back if they are short on TE's.
    • MHS, You are missing Claudin Cherelus is a LB that's in the mix for the 4th spot. He's been here for 2 years and had a couple injuries. I mean he was a wavier claim and been here for evero system, just had bad luck when given a chance. Jon Rhat is the current leader mainly cause of he is the ST ace. But Id say, Cherelus has the same % to make the roster.  CB has the recent wavier claim of MJ Devonshire a 2024 7th rounder. He's got the good-great combine numbers but he's small size. Still he's in the mix for backup duties, in fact all the non-UDFA are wavier claims.  ______________________________________________________________   Dam shame about Clowney. I view this as a bad move. I feel clowny is well worth the 7.7, even as a backup. He played hard the whole year without help. I just feel he would have helped more than either DJ Johnson or Barno.  My only cope is he's 32 and at any point his miro-knee could force him to drop off a cliff performance-wise. I wanted to keep him around at least until the trade deadline and if no chance at playoff, flip him for a anything. NFL is a meat grinder, no love for locals....
