Rivera, a shot at coach of year?

lol no!

But I will give him credit, I was scared to death that he'd play Deangelo a lot more than he did yesterday. He used Deangelo just after Stewart ripped off a huge run and needed a break.

Now if we could just get him to do something about that loser he calls a friend that is in charge of the special teams unit I'll start believing that he's learning from his mistakes.

i know people are saying arians is a lock but what rivera did was pretty remarkable. this whole board was calling for his head 5 weeks ago. he managed to keep the team focused when they could have just packed it in. its a valid argument.

I'm just indifferent to him at this point.  The incompetence that sometimes comes out of this staff has been unreal but on the other hand, he keeps the team on the same page.  I think he has intangibles that many HCs don't have.  It involves creating a strong team environment and knowing how to corral the troops well.  He just needs to keep his late season mojo year-round from an in-game perspective.

I still question him.  The board was over 90% who wanted him gone only a month and a week ago.

Yes, but not enough to beat Arians and him getting 11 wins in the NFC West with 4 QB's, argurable their best player on defense being suspended, etc..   Couple that with I don't think you should be eligible if you go 2 months without winning a game.

However the fact that we are even in the playoffs is a combination of luck that our whole division sucked at the same time,  Rivera's ability to keep the team together , and somehow all of our rookies panning out.  The rookie thing is amazing btw.   We have 8 rookies either starting or playing significant roles in our team.  That's unheard of.

What gets wildly undervalued about Rivera and his staff is that they have done a tremendous job developing young talent while coaxing contributions from their veterans. Charles Johnson, Thomas Davis, Kalil and Olsen have thrived under Rivera, while Cam and Luke and Star and Kelvin and Ealy and Norman and Boston and Bene and Kawann, etc. have all grown under his development. The most important part of coaching is bringing out improvement in your young players and Rivera and his staff have done that consistently. Coupled with Gettleman's drafts this can be a potent combination for future success.

On another thread there was a discussion about Luke and how only 10% wanted him at the time. Now your post about only 10 % of posters wanted Rivera this year and I realized that on both occasions I was one of the 10%. Rivera is doing the best job of his 4 year stint this year. When the rest of the division fell apart as their coaches couldn't pull everyone together, We were in third place in the division and vying for a top 5 pick after getting blown out weekly. There was every reason to cave but the Panthers never did. That was coaching. Join us and enjoy the ride. No matter when it ends it has been great and unexpected. The first home playoff win since 2003. Back to back division titles.

After all, whether you like or hate Rivera will have no bearing on the what the team will do which is to keep him and be grateful they have him.

I think he really derserves consideration. Not many coaches could keep a team together after everything that happens. He made tough decisions and did what he needed to do to get this turned around and to the playoffs. That is extremely difficult. A lot of times coaches in that situation just completely lose a team. Rivera is so respected by the players though
