Any team that runs a Zone Blitz will do that from time to time (the Steelers do it plenty).

 

Like any defensive tactic, sometimes it works.  Other times it doesn't.

 

 

Obviously I understand you sometimes get beat... What I'm questioning is why we would choose to run something like on 3rd and long in the biggest game of the season? When we've had success generating pressure with just front 4. The entire time he's been our DC we've always dropped the linebackers into a zone. Make them throw short and make the tackle.

Not saying it was the right call pn that play.

 

Just saying it's a staple of the Zone Blitz that we run.

I'm happy for Sean, he deserves this opportunity. I think we would elevate Steve Wilks as our new DC.

When it doesnt its the schemes fault we have two of the best coverage linebackers in the game. And you take them out of the play blitzing a qb whose made a living out of teams blitzing him. Not good, not to mention having luke and td underneath would have took stress off of our young dbs allowing them to focus on the deep ball and not having to worry underneath. You do that to qbs that panic under pressure not those who thrive.

I don't understand why he's getting so many interviews. I don't view him as ready for a HC position.

I'm not here to give an expert opinion. Just an opinion. Our defense was crap most of this year. We dominated bad offenses and got burnt by good offenses. Russel Wilson was 8 for 8 on third down. He threw two touchdowns against the blitz, and surprise! We blitzed on his 3rd TD. That doesn't impress me.

I've asked the same question, honestly.

 

One thing I know about McDermott from reports I've seen:  Players love playing for him, just like they do Rivera.

can't judge a coach based on that. Maybe you do, but those in the league do not, and for good reason.
