"Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports that the team will interview Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott for the job on Wednesday. It’s the first interview that McDermott has lined up since the end of the regular season, which may just mean that he opted to wait until the Panthers season came to an end.

McDermott has been the defensive coordinator in Carolina since 2011 and built the unit into one of the best in the league during the 2013 season. They took a step back for much of 2014, but the defense rebounded late in the year and helped pave the way to a second straight NFC South title. Prior to joining the Panthers, McDermott spent more than a decade in Philadelphia as an assistant and eventual successor at defensive coordinator to the late Jim Johnson."

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
