Trepidation about what we will see in 2015

All around the league franchises are shaking things up. If something isn't working, it needs to be changed. In fact, change is the precursor to curing many ills. This coach refuses to adjust and will sit status quo. One of the worst special teams units for years running and a limp offense that doesn't get the job done when needed. I'm sure DG will sign some FA help and do well in the draft again. Parts of this coaching staff needed to go and it will not be happening. I don't know if some new players can cure the stagnation that has seemed to set into parts of this team. Hard to be overly optimistic when nothing is improved upon as far as the coaching staff goes.

If our roster improves, our record will improve. But after two trips to the playoffs, we should be thinking bigger. Can this staff out coach other staffs in the playoffs? Can this roster match other rosters in the playoffs? Our highly touted defense has been undone by balanced offenses two straight years. Maybe we need to be more prolific on offense because the defense cannot keep us in these divisional games.

Looks like the plan for 2015 is to upgrade the roster.

Gettleman has erased any doubt that he is onboard with Rivera and his staff.

Saw a lot of botched plays and missed opportunities out there this year.

An improvement in key roster talent might be enough to correct that issue.

Rivera and Shula still need to solve the riddle of the red zone and the two minute offense.

If they do next year may turn out to be a good one after all.

    • I was never onboard with Morgan to begin with.  The dude always seemed a hammer short of a full tool bag, maybe too many concussions.  He was a Fitterer hold over and I thought he should have been gone when Fitts went.  He literally made it to NFL GM with no credentials to speak of other than a playing career.  Shorts stints of personnel management for the Seahawks and Bills, neither organization choosing promotion or retention.  I believe Morgan was added as a friendly face to sooth the a fanbase that was growing to hate Tepper and probably retained for the same reason.  Morgan never coached, had minimal front office experience and the GM he "assisted" was deservedly fired.  From what I can find online he received a BA in Liberal Arts from Miami so that isn't exactly a qualification either.
    • If you really want to change the identity of the culture, then your opinion may indeed be the way to go. 1) I see nothing from our drafts since 2020 to indicate that either the scouts or the GM's are shrew evaluators of college talent. 2) A new GM should be able to hire a coach since his livelihood is directly affected by how well the coach can get the team to perform on Sundays. The only time I'm ok with a GM keeping the coach that proceeded his hiring is if the new GM wants to work with the coach. Ideally, He should have final say over the coach instead of the owner. And, that coach and GM need to be in sync on how the team should be run on both sides of the ball. 3) A new coach should be able to pick his own staff. If he wants to keep a coach already on the staff that's fine. A new HC hire shouldn't be told that you have to use this guy for one of the jobs, especially a position as important OC or DC.
    • The crazy thing is some of these plays that went down to like 2 on the play clock were basic inside zone runs. That poo shouldn't take 30+ seconds to decide when you are down 24... It's not like they had to hot route multiple receivers and change blocking assignments after lining up. It's almost like Canales has somebody else's playbook and needs to flip through 10 pages to try and figure out what play he is going to run
