Why does NFL media hate Cam Newton? (Bear fans take on Cam.)

Except that he hasn't struggled (ref "still struggles"). His resume and skill set are greater to or equal to any 25 year old in the history of team sports. When he gets these things (and is there any doubt with GMan?), he will be the GOAT and the media will be the GIMP (Pulp Fiction reference).

Bortles and Gene Smith finished with better completion percentages than Cam. Kyle Orton and Austin Davis had better QB ratings than Cam. If that's not struggling then you have set the bar really low.

Yeah Cam did struggle. But he also had injuries and a bad o-line for a long portion of this season. Completion percentages should not be viewed in a vacuum.

The "media" doesn't hate Cam Newton. The media is a bunch of individuals who call it like they see it. If a media member states that Cam Newton has had mediocre passing stats his entire career ( an objective fact ) that, according to the 'huggers is "hate".

It is actually the 'Huggers who hate.

They hate Kap...who has finished ahead of Newton in passer rating every season he has been in the league...

They hate Wilson...ditto...and Super Bowl Champion...the knife is twisted...

And they really hate Luck, who threw for 40 TD's and is in the AFC championship game only because he plays in the AFC South, LOL...

And get ready for more hate...

Because Ryan Tannehill and Teddy Bridgewater have passed Newton as well...

Carr, Bortles ???...not yet, but don't be surprised...and Mariotta and Winston arrive next year...

lol at the overreacting drama queens in here talking like our fanbase hates/doesn't appreciate cam.

there is a very noisy but small miniority that feels that way. most think he's awesome.

quit reaching for max effect.

I normally agree with most of your posts but Cam gets trashed on the Huddle all the time. Maybe it's a small minority but they sure make a ton of noise after every game, win or lose and it gets frustrating. I expect to hear the crap on our opponents boards but it would be nice to enjoy a win without a Panther Fans derping on a couple overthrown passes.

As for the drama queen comment, I'd say that applies to your post as much as it does everyone else's. Maybe you are not as frustrated by the Cam detractors, but who elected you the sole judge of how other fans may feel? Seems like you're either seeking attention or simply want to make yourself feel superior. I hope you got what you're looking for. Sheesh.

because..........after they crucified him before the draft,  and labeled him a bust.. he has basically spit in their collective faces when he wasn't a bust.

Exactly. The ones that knocked Cam before the draft, hoped he would fail, so they could pound their chest and say i told you so.

Since he has exceded their expections, they want to still trash him, attempting to preserve their own large ego and frail image..

The person I quoted said he didn't struggle, why I pointed those numbers out. Vacuum or not, Cam was in the bottom half of the league in nearly every qb measure there is. Blame the line, blame the receivers like always, Cam was not good this year. He did not have the worst pass blocking line this year, 7th worst according to pff and very close to the ratings of Seattle and Atlanta. Even including all those supposed drops by our wideouts he finished ahead of only Hoyer in accuracy %. Use injuries as an excuse fine, should he have been playing if they affected him that much? Cam is not the only qb with a bad offensive line and average at best receivers. I don't recall seeing anyone bring up Moose's comments from earlier this week. He feels the first thing that needs to improve is Cam's game to take the next step as a team. He wasn't blaming the weapons, whom he feels were adequate but could be improved. Moose starts around 51:00.

TonyN is a parody account?

Right?

Gotta be... that's the ONLY rational explanation for the hilarity above.

What are you talking about?  Toothpick Teddy has passed Cam!!!  His 500+ less total yards, 5 less TDs, noodle arm, and spotty accuracy are certainly more impressive than what Cam did after ankle surgery, broken ribs, and two broken vertebra.

Cam Newton's completion percentage this year is identical to Andrew Luck's CAREER completion percentage.

I don't think anyone thinks he has struggled

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
