Cam on DP Show this morning

The other day Dan Patrick had Luke on, and today was Cam's turn.

Here's the tl;dr version:

-Arrived 15 minutes late.  Previous guests included Jimmy Graham, Darius Rucker, and Erin Heatherton

-Brings ONE (1) Under Armour shoe

-Asked why he only brought one--said the other got stuck in the mud outside, a nod to DP's western-themed broadcast set

-Asked about bad weather--said you just have to psyche yourself out, and get over it; accuracy is tough on both short and long passes

-About avoiding Sherman--just gives props; said he stays over the top, smart player, that he's like a cat.  Says he worries more about Kam Chancellor

-Asked about the alltime moment where he got-got--said his rookie year against Arakpo (sp?) he was blindsided; commented about the 3-4 defense giving them trouble [as it still does] and the OT missing the block.

-Ask about the alltime moment he got someone--said it was the block on Lance Briggs this past season.  Briggs didn't see him coming as the ball reversed field.  Said he launced all "255 I have at him."

-Asked about biggest player he's played against--said Julius Pepper

-Voice has never cracked at LoS

-Asked about embarassing moment--said his rookie year where he lined up behind the wrong OLman

-Asked about LoS adjustments--said they keep them basic; doesn't try to be Peyton Manning.  Brady and Manning are in a league of their own, and he's just trying to be the best Cam Newton

-Brady dresses better. DP says he needs a wife.  Cam:  "Heeeey."

-Re: cadences--said he is inconsistent; compares himself to Luck, who's always very consistent.  Says OL just need to listen for that, "hut," and don't worry about anything else

-Asked about mics on the field--says mics should not be allowed b/c listening to calls/audibles gives too much of a competitive advantage

-Re: Manning's LoS adjustments--said he needs to practice his fake calls with WRs

-Under Armour plug was weird.  Talking about that shoe, "In all respects to people's joints and bones, UA's new shoe helps perform better."  WAT?

-What he learned today [a DP Show wrap-up]: 1. needs to improve dummy signs 2. he's envious of Manning and Brady [joking] and 3. he needs a wife

He's so bad at interviews.. I hope his teammates make fun of him all the time for it. He needs a speech coach. He tries way too hard.

It's funny that his response for the bad weather question was, "you have to psyche yourself out"

I have this ball signed by yogi Berra. You should look him up.

This was one of the best interviews I've ever seen Cam do. I legit laughed out loud a few times. Apparently he was very impressive on the Rich Eisen show as well, as the show's producer tweeted "Cam Newton. Impressive.".

He'll be on Jim Rome today as well.

(secretly hoping for Rome to piss him off and Cam to go Jim Everett on him)

    • Would be happy with Lomu or Iheanachor at 19. Fano is intriguing but I don't think he makes it.
    • II see it this way: We have to look at long-term needs and current depth.  We have filled some key spots with players on one-year contracts.  I firmly believe that they intend to pay Bryce some big bucks next year.  That means you cannot hope that your rookies in 2027 can fill the spots vacated by the veterans you could not afford to re-sign.   We need to consider the cap and the fact that the need to start a rookie is not viewed as a positive by coaches and general managers, but they value first contracts--so it is a delicate balance. I think they have to look at the cap by position--"Can we afford a $50m QB and a $100m OL?  That is half the cap, before you pay your WRs and RBs and TEs.  They need to start getting younger on the OL as well.   I am not suggesting that we draft OT in round 1, but we could and I would get it.  RT on a 1-year deal, they may have intel about Ickey (who was not the best LT, to be honest) and 32-year old Moton is on a bad wheel.   Now if you go by Morgan's history, you can almost tell what position we are going to address with the first pick by noting the positions he has not focused on in free agency.  DT, considering the lack of performance by those not named Derrick Brown and the loss of Robinson, is screaming to be addressed with a top player.  Wharton is not an early down DT (DE if you want to get technical) and our LBs need to be clean--they were not in 2025.  Look for a DT early. I also think we will address ILB (pass covering Will) on day 2.  The other day 2 pick will be an OT, in my view. Do not rule out CB.  We are thin there too, and Jackson is in his final year.  I am not sure that we love Smith-Wade.  Some crackhead on here talked about moving him to S----stay tuned.   Hopefully, a team wanting Ty Simpson will move up and offer us a pick or two to move back. DT WILB OT OC QB  (you heard it here 337th--but this pick could come sooner than you think.
    • Bryce had some bad games, but he had some good ones as well (and this is coming from a Bryce skeptic). I think it's a little simplistic to put all the offensive woes on Bryce, you also should be looking at O-line play, receiver play, RB and TE play, and also coaching. There's no way when I look at the offense in it's totality am I ready to say that a so-so to bad offense was all on Bryce, and, I also can't say that we don't need to upgrade any position on offense, save Tetairoa McMillan (who also wasn't perfect) and maybe the starting guards and T-mo.
