Hawaii help

Wouldn't spend more than 2 days on Oahu you can knock out Pearl Harbor in a day.  Go to the North shore one morning and Waikiki at night. Brooklyn suggestion of Kauai is the best for peace and quiet.  Maui is good if you want to be a tourist without the crowds of Oahu.  Big Island is a good day trip to see the Volcano Park but don't plan on see real lava.  Just depends on what you want to do.  Also hotels are expensive depending on when you come out.

Thanks for all the input. It definitely sounds like many are sour on Oahu. Would this still be the case if I stayed in the north shore area as opposed to Waikiki? We were looking at north shore/turtle Bay Area but weren't sure if it's worthwhile. Will definitely look into avoiding LAX if possible.

I went to Hawaii on my honeymoon 16 months ago.

I HIGHLY recommand you to pick Maui.

Things to do in Maui

-Luau

-Watch sunrise from Haleakala peak and then bike down the volcano

-Annabell magic show (a must)

-Discover Hawaii tour http://www.discoverhawaiitours.com/tours-by-island/maui-tours/ Book trip to Big Island to see valcanos and etc... its amazing

-Take a trip to Lanai

-Road to Hana, black sand beaches

-Sunset dinner cruise boat

-Hiking trip and swim in natural pools

Huge amount of food and entertainment!!! My wife cried when we had to leave Maui...

PS: Do not fly thru LA... it will be a nightmare. They will make you leave Airport and recheck ur bags... it's so retarded.

This all sounds good and is what i am looking for. Do you recommend a certain area of Maui or a certain hotel? Also, how are the beaches? I read somewhere that all the beaches in Hawaii are really rocky in the water from the lava rock and require water shoes to avoid getting cuts.

Yea, beaches are very rocky unless you go to black "sand" beach or any other "sand" beach. Wailea is expensive and will cost you around $600 a night. While Wailea is pretty, there is nothing special about it. You need realize that you barely gonna spend any time in the hotel so I don't see a reason to pay crazy money. We stayed at Aston Kaanapali Shores resort and we loved it. It has grocery store across the street and awesome barbreakfast place. It's 5 miles driving distance from many fun places and about 40min drive from airport. This place is not expensive but super nice and has awesome restaurant, sandy beaches, dryer and washer in the room, full size kitchen, balcony and awesome garden.

If you're going to try surfing it is fun if you have good balance. If you just want to have fun just go body boarding. I prefer riding drop knee.

There's coral everywhere but I never cut my feet on it. I got a huge scar on my leg from surfing too close to coral

Watch for snakes on any island you go to

No snakes in Hawaii.  Also on the surfing thing if you don't know how to surf do the surf lessons for a day.

Far as Turtle Bay goes it is nice and not crowded if you don't want to pay the extra air fare to fly to another airport it is a good option.

North Shore isn't bad  a lot of sand beaches there too.

Did seven days on Kauai. You will NOT be sorry. It's the "garden island". Much less city to be found. It's lush, beautiful, and small enough to drive around the entire island (except for one spot where there's a jungle). It even has a huge mountain that gets cold up top and is one of the rainiest spots in the US. If you want true Hawaii, I'd go here. We stayed in Princeville.

Completely agree. Spent a week there and it is to this day the only vacation I didn't want to come home from.

Maui is beautiful, but Hawaii isn't worth it to me.

Head South young man.  The Caribbean was/is much more fun, and so much easier to get to.  Hawaii is overpriced, and more importantly, you will spend 20 hours, at least, in airports and on planes.

St. John, Thomas, Dominican, Jamaica, Kitts, Anguilla, the list goes on and on.  I would go back to any of them before going back to Hawaii.

Add Curacao and Bonaire. Curacao has the famous Campo de Allegre

http://www.campoalegresex.com/general-information.php

A state sanctioned and managed red light district, complete with bar and bands and entertainment. Also referred to as "The Compound."

Any thoughts on Grenada? Thinking about going there for a week or so. Last time I was there was on business with the Navy in 1983 evacuating a bunch of American medical students....
