Drafting a Wide out in the first three rounds is imperative.

Having a good WR corp can go a long way. Cam Newton is already this  teams franchise QB. Getting this man weapons and protecting him are the next steps. 

 

 

Free agency has not started yet, officially and we've already made some moves to ensure we have some more success in the offense and the special teams.

 

Special teams Ace Ted Ginn JR has come back home, even if he is a Cleveland Native. I can assure you this is the place he would call home just because of how good that one year was. 2013 was a good year for Ted Ginn. Looking at his stats for that year. You'd say it's a mediocre performance. For Ginn, who didn't quite live up to his expectations in SF, came here and rose from the ashes. He became that guy that could be a weapon in two facets of the team. Special teams and Offense. One year removed, he didn't live up to his expectations in Arizona. Coming back to Carolina and continuing that chemistry he gained with Cam Newton will benefit him. I do see a reduced role in the Offense though. He would be the #3-4th option for Cam. That's quite fine. Ginn can focus on his craft as return specialist. Helping this team in that area.

 

 

Kelvin Benjamin is the #1 receiver at this time. We all know what he is capable of. He can have some of the most amazing catches but drop the easiest ones. His rookie campaign will go down in history as the best campaign in the history of the position for the Panthers. What I love about KB is that he is not complacent. He knows he needs work done. He needs to work on his hands. It's no secret. The quickest way to solve a problem is to know you have one and accept it. He's done that. I'm sure his sophomore year will be just as good if not better. Once he gets control of his hands he will be amazing. 

 

 

The unsung hero, the guy who just came out of no where and solidified his presence on the team. A surprise to me actually that he went undrafted. Corey "Philly" Brown. He's honestly a diamond in the rough. He has the potential to be a #2 with his speed. It will be a challenge but he can do it. As of now he's a solid #3 option. In the future his floor will always be a #3. He could be higher if he works at it though.

 

Brenton Bersin. The muff punter himself. We won't be saying that anymore, take out the punt returning duties and Brenton was on the verge of becoming a #2 receiver. Then the punt return duties came and well he dropped the ball on that and his role in the offense took a major dip. As it stands now he's no better than a #4.

 

De'Andre Presley....who? Yeah, he has had that much impact on the team. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Right now, Greg Olsen and Kelvin Benjamin are the top receivers followed by a bunch of #3's and #4's. This coming draft is once again, deep. I'm sure Cam Newton and the brass are reacting like...

 

 

 

 

 

 

Forget the big names, Although it's nice to day dream of a White/Benjamin duo. It's not going to happen.

 

 

The next crop, the lower tier guys are not bad either. Here's a list of WR's that could be available at #25 al the way through the 3rd round.

Being that this draft is deep at the position, this means talent will slip. From the first, second, and third rounds. The fourth round would be a little hazy. The thing that will dictate the talent dropping is if Teams don't rush to get WR's. There's always a round that they start going after WR's. Last year it happened a little sooner than expected, but there were several WR needy teams. This year, not so much. I believe Pass Rushers will be what will help the WR Talent pool last a little longer, maybe even until the 4th round when we pick.

 

Preferrably, I would like the Panthers to make a choice in the first two rounds, but if another top talent drops to them, I would not be mad if they take such talent. Example: Kony Ealy, Trai turner. 

 

Drafting another weapon would set up the Panthers nicely, KB, Brown and Draft pick would make a nice 1-2-3 combo. Olsen is in his prime and I don't think Shula could mess this offense up with so much talent. 

 

In order for this offense to move forward, this April/May, a WR has to be taken to line up next to Kelvin. Ultimately I trust Gettleman with his evaluations since 2 years running he's found players that contribute immediately. So if he picks a wide out in the first three rounds, he's going to be a starter, you can believe that.

Yea, i agree. Gman must resist the urge to draft a DE, we need a no 2 WR so bad. I dont care who.. Jalen Strong would be nice as would Breshad Perriman. I wish this team wasnt so scared of chracter concerns because DGB will be a beast

I don't think Bersin will be on the final roster this season. I believe Mike Brown will be a major upgrade over him and Stephen Hill could as well. I believe Philly Brown is a better receiver than Ginn and will be higher on the depth chart. Depending who we add Cotchery could be gone.

Sammie Coates has one of the worst set of hands I have seen in a WR the last few years. Coates has a drop rate of 19.1%. That is the highest I have ever seen for a WR since I started following the combine (2007).

 

 

 

Just to put that into perspective KB drop rate coming out of FSU after his redshirt sophomore year was 9.68%.

Neither do I.

He's actually a decent fourth receiver (third at highest) and he did some god things for us last season, but I've said before I don't think he makes it another year. Improved depth probably leaves him an odd man out.

Cool for him that he got to play a year of pro football, but his ceiling was never really that high.

Have to protect Cam and his blindside. Cam like to hold onto the ball which may be part a lack of options, but I think he does it naturally as well. Having decent protection is imperative for Cam, especially as he ages and we'll need to rely less and less on his legs. Even with his legs, shoddy protection for the first 2/3rds of last year nearly got him killed and did get him injured. Tackle is much more important IMO.

I'm on the Strong bandwagon in the first this year.  I was hoping for a Strong/LT/Hardy first three rounds before, but with signing Ginn I'd have a hard time believing we'll double dip at WR this year.  If we don't get Strong (or Parker) in the 1st, I'm REALLY hoping for Hardy in the 2nd or 3rd.

 

edit:  might add Perriman to that list for the 1st.  Don't know much about him, but I watched a video.  Seems to have good hands, good size, good speed, really good after the catch.  Anyone know much about his route running?  Can he get separation?

you are right in that assumption, when KB was at FSU Greene was the number 1.

 

 

KB was a freak of nature at WR and no college corner would contend with his size but Greene was the most reliable and Winston trusted him the most. But with saying that FSU REALLY missed KB this past season. FSU lacked size at wr and did not really have a red zone threat outside O'leary who is only 6'3.
