Patriots have signed DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard to a two-year contract worth $11 million.

2-year deal worth $11 million, per source, including $5.5 million guaranteed.

Patriots were hosting Sheard tonight.

Sheard reportedly had interest from the Buccaneers, Bengals, and Seahawks as well.

Sheard, 25, recorded 44 tackles, two sacks, and three pass defenses over the course of 16 games for the Browns last year.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 16 outside linebacker in 3-4 defense out of 46 qualifying players.

Thought they build through the draft?

49ers Officially Release WR Stevie Johnson

Johnson was unwilling to take a pay cut.

Johnson, 28, still had two years remaining on his five-year, $36.25 million contract that included $18.05 million guaranteed. He would have made base salaries of $5.5 million and $5.85 million over the final two years of the agreement.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Johnson would free up $6,025,000 in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2014, Johnson appeared in 13 games and caught 35 passes for 435 yards receiving and three touchdowns for the 49ers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 receiver out of 110 qualifying players, which is pretty good considering that he only played 305 snaps.

NY Jet fans pretty happy about their big upgrade at QB:

-Like this move a lot. 9th-best QB rating in the NFL last year. Better than Wilson, Rivers, Ryan, Eli, Flacco, etc.

Fitzpatrick last season: 17 TDs, 8 INTs.

Geno Smith last season 13 TDs, 13 TDs

Fitz is a competent QB, something we havent had in a long time.

Better than geno and hes familiar with Gailey. I dont hate this move.

Wow. Buh bye Geno.

Wouldbrather go with Fitz, Draft Mariota (let him sit and learn the position), and just jettison Geno.

Fitzpatrick will beat out Geno if that is the only competition. Bank on it.

Fitzpatrick is a ideal stop gap guy for a Mariota. I don't want to over-think things though...But I do not want Geno

2015

Fitzpatrick

Mariota

Simms

IM SO PUMPED!!!! LETS GO!!!! DRAFT MARIOTTA AND LET HIM SIT BEHIND FITZ!!! CUT GENO (if we draft MM) !!!!

I don't want Ryan Fitzpatrick or Geno Smith

He's a good fit. Now, if we can move Geno and bring in Glennon, I'll be VERY happy

Fitz will be our day 1 starter.

very likely imo. Geno has to learn Gailey's system, whereas Fitzpatrick won't. That's a HUGE advantage, especially with Geno's seemingly low football IQ. Then there's the TO issue. Bowles is on record as saying that if a QB turns the ball over, he'll find himself on the bench. Fitzpatrick can throw some picks to be sure, but he's less likely to than Geno. I'm sad to say that with Geno, throwing interceptions is a given.

Imagine Amari Cooper in Jax with Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns and Julius Thomas!

The future is bright in Jacksonville! Flame away!

Naw I agree. They are definitely trending up. I think Bortles is going to be a better than average QB and his supporting cast is already better than Cam's. Bortles may be my second QB in a two-quarterback fantasy league this year. I think he can take a big jump forward in his second year.

    • 6 pages of tuka and Seltzer arguing is actually 97 pages long
    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
