Cam is going to get paid

What did I say that made you think I wasn't calm? Well now I'll give you reason

Im done with talking Cam Newton. You can't say poo about him here unless you're comments are praising the man. I love Cam Newton, and want to keep him. However, regardless of what Gettleman said, if the money is too much, and he struggles next season, I think it's very reasonable to think Gman will let him walk.

You're a grown man, time to stop hugging the nuts of another grown man.

I love Cam!  But...

I love Cam!  However...

I love Cam!  Except...

I love Cam!  Yet...

I love Cam!  Still..

I love Cam!  Nevertheless...

The haunting cry of the species continues.

I don't get why all of you seem to think I'm against extending Cam Newton.

You mean outside the fact that when someone dares to disagree with you about Cam Newton, you immediately revert to the tried-and-true "nut hugger" label to minimize those who disagree with you?

Wow... who could have ever imagined that someone might think you are against Cam Newton?

It's only stupid to someone too stupid to understand it. You all boast about a team's ability to force a player to stay with it without ever giving the player an ACTUAL contract. It doesn't matter how much more than an actual indentured servant they're being paid, philosophically, it's exactly the same.

When you join a union that made an agreement with the league to allow things like "franchising" a player, that means you agree with the actions of the union.

In other words, you SIGNED A CONTRACT agreeing that you would play under those requirements for compensation that you VOLUNTARILY consider adequate.

"Indentured servitude"...

You said all that as if indentured servants weren't under contract/agreement.

Indentured servants were "servants" because they were placed into positions where their only choices were to "serve" or fuging "starve".

The fact that you can compare that to million dollar athletes and their contract choices is farcical.

And here we watch the 'franchise QB' debate break down like it almost always does.

Reality is a lot of you are measuring with the wrong criteria.

Does Newton have issues? Absolutely he does. So does every other franchise quarterback. Despite all the hype they get, not a single one of them is perfect. And yes that includes Brady, Rodgers, etc.

Newton needs coaching. They all do. And they always will. But that's not the argument (or at least it shouldn't be)

I said back when we were debating Jake Delhomme that there are only two types of quarterback in the NFL, and it's still true.

There are quarterbacks that are good enough to win the Super Bowl, and there are quarterbacks that are not.

That's it. No perfects, no top fives, top tens, blah blah blah. You want to have those discussions, have at it. But when it's all said and done the reality is you're just arguing over adjectives.

The true bottom line is this and only this: Can he win it all or not?

I still say yes. You disagree? Fine. Prove it to me.

Cam will get paid just like every other franchise quarterback.  There are 32 teams but there are not 32 franchise quarterbacks so a guy like cam who clearly is, will get paid a premium.  He will get paid 20 million a year and he will deserve it.  Think about it, we had as much dead cap money as Cam will get and we still paid Hardy 13 million for nothing.  If Cam gets 20 million that will still leave 130 million for everyone else and that number will climb.  Plus, Cam is getting 14 million this year already so 20 million is really only 6 million more.  Plus due to the large signing bonus the first 2 years of a contract are really cap friendly so there wont any problem at all.  Folks saying he isnt worth the money or that he is going elsewhere are typically either trolling or dont have a clue.  If you were here under Clausen or back when Carr was here, you wouldnt be saying that Ca isnt worth the money or that we could easily replace him.  Truth is that it is hard to find a franchise guy.  IIRC, there were four quarterbacks picked in the first round in 2011.  Cam is the only starting for an NFL team.

I have no doubt that Gettlemen offers Cam a fair amount, but my concern is that Cam thinks he is worth more-or his agent holds off until the Panthers are in more of a bind.  Right now, he knows the Panthers have options--franchise tag in 2016, Derrick Anderson.  But if he can hold off the contract talks until 2017, then the Panthers are in more of a pickle.  Anderson is probably too old (or getting there), the Panthers are building around Cam and 2015-16 is the maturation of that process, etc.  The Panthers would be without options.  It really serves Cam's camp to wait.

Anderson won 2 games last year, or 28.5% of our regular-season games.  He was undefeated (yes, Tampa both times, but you negotiate with numbers, not perceptions).  Cam was 5-8-1.  He was injured early and had some real chemistry issues early on with new, strange receivers. His OL was terrible.   Perhaps the best time to negotiate is now for Gettlemen, later for Cook.  Regardless, I think 2015 will be a good season and I think the Panthers will win the South and make it to the NFC Championship game--at least.  Cam will want to stay and it will get done then, if not sooner.

He is right.. its not Cam that annoys me either its all the band wagon "Panther" fans that came with him in 2011 that worship the ground he walks on.... and think hes better than Tom Brady.

Golly look, more ridiculous hyperbole.

Its almost as if y'all think your point can't be supported without it.

the best time is now.

i've said it before Cam has a VERY high chance of blowing up this season. We are keeping things in house with the signings. We are building chemistry and Cam is getting healthy. Notice Gman making these two year deals not 1 year. Year 5 through 7 is when the greats started really clicking. Cam is ahead of the curve because we have fed him a lot and haven't babied him. I'm afraid he's gonna ball so hard that his numbers will sky rocket.

Cam is betting on himself. When Cam bets on himself, history shows he usually wins.

Franchise QB numbers going forward are going to be in the 20-25 million range.

Whether you think Cam is worth it or not, it doesn't matter.

Whether you question his "desire" to win it doesn't matter.

THE MARKET VALUE FOR FRANCHISE QB'S IS 20-25 MILL PER YEAR!!!!!

If you don't believe Cam is a franchise QB, look on your season tickets, look on the website under season tickets.   Ill save you the time..Cam/Luke are featured prominently.  When you see the Sunday Night/Monday Night promos's ..the first thing they same is Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.    Look at the Cam Newton Jerseys at the game???   Period point blank he is going to get between 20-25 mill.  Just accept it and move on.
