Joe Montana NFL Football 16... AKA NFL 2k16... Madden's tyrannical monopoly coming to an end?

No doubt in my mind 2K can make a better football game than EA Sports, the only problem I see is that since 2K has been out of the loop of football games for an extended period of time, they might need a year or two before it can go above and beyond Madden.

Of course if it's true it's exclusive to Xbox 1 and PC only, I might need to invest in a new PC.

Unless EA gives someone else permission (not going to happen) to make an NFL game, Madden will stay the only game in town. EA renewed it's exclusive agreement with the NFL.

That's what I was thinking. Seems the rumor is the game can have NFL teams, players, stadiums, etc. if they only keep it from being a multi-platform game by releasing it on the Xbox 1 and PC only. Seems kind of farfetched. Until we get more details, I think this might be another All Pro Football or Backbreaker type of game.

Just sucks current teams/players won't be playable. That, outside of the hardcore fans, will be its downfall for the masses.

What they could do is release the game without the licensed stuff and give free reign of customization to the user. I believe Backbreaker allowed for 30 or so created teams for this specific purpose.

When the NCAAF franchise was being threatened with schools pulling out of the licensing agreement because of the Ed O'Bannon case, the developers were planning on doing this instead before NCAAF was scrapped altogether.

That's smart if they make it completely customizable. Then all you need is downloadable user made rosters and a whole bunch of guys from pasta padre or operation sports to tweak on each roster. That'd be pretty cool.

You guys know this is BS right (in terms of using the NFL license)? EA will continue to be the only NFL game because that's what the NFL wants.  For the record, Madden 2005 was a damn solid title that held it's own with 2K's installment that year. It's just when they went next gen (360) everything went to poo.

But here's the thing....IF (and it's a huge IF because most developers hate developing for PC because of the very positive I'm about to mention) this game is released for PC it won't matter that it's generic. The game will be modded like crazy by the first month and we will have full authentic NFL teams/uniforms/rosters/stadiums/video packages etc. So here's to the game actually releasing on PC, which I doubt.

The agreement has a loophole that 1st party titles CAN use the NFL license... just not multi-platform ones.

I have no fuging clue why they wouldn't use the NFL license if this really is a Microsoft exclusive.  It makes zero sense to go all out to contract 2K to create a 1st party football game (which they know would poo on EA's Xbox shares) and then just turn around and make some generic Arena League Football type game.

They know it's the NFL brand that sells.

I don't know.  I know it's pure false hope and naivety by this point, but maybe it's a smoke screen.  They have been keeping this whole thing rather close to the chest.  It wouldn't be hard at all to release some images with some misleading skins of gameplay before the game's release.  That happens a lot actually.

"Lame ass trading card game"

"Even madden ultimate team is better than FUT"

Ok yeah you just lost all credibility. You're done.

Lol well luckily no one on this board gives a flying fug about your opinion, despite how delusionally highly regarded you may think it is.

    • I personally think you are trying to talk yourself into circles here... It's ok to say Bryce played incredible the last 5 weeks... I know there are plenty of people on this board who desperately need the doom-and-gloom narrative, but I genuinely question how much NFL QB play some of these people really have watched when they still question him being the unquestioned starter for next year...  Again, that being said, no one is crowning him at all. I think Bryce is one of the best stories going into 2025 bc his season last year was so outlandishly unprecedented. It's totally fair to personally not believe in Bryce. Plenty of sports "journalists" need to write stories, and that's an easy narrative path... But I think that actual people in the know rank Bryce much higher. That's the fun thing about sports... we shall see!
    • Regardless of how we got here, any rational fan should be excited by how well Bryce played down the stretch. Anyone not happy about that level of play either doesn't know what they're looking at, or they're still trying to drive tired narratives. Obviously, Cam had an all-time rookie season, and I'm not putting the two in the same basket yet, but as someone who has watched every snap of Panthers football since the start of the new millennium (Im old), Bryce was playing at a higher level at the end of 2024 than Cam was at the end of 2012 (his 2nd season). Cam continued to develop into MVP form, something Bryce has to prove, but as someone who watched both (and will stan for Cam always), Bryce was playing at a higher level to end year 2 than Cam did.  Go watch the film if you dont believe me. None of that means anything for the future. But the people who said BY9 couldnt play in this league are wrong.   That being said, the only thing that matters is this year. #20 is perfectly fair IMO going into the season. I mean think about it, how would you rank him??!  His in-season turnaround is one of the wildest things I've ever seen... how do you rank a guy who looked like a massive bust in September and by January was consistently playing at a top 10 level? My excitement level is pretty damn high heading into this season. There were throws from the Chiefs game onward where Bryce had Drew Brees levels of anticipation. Im excited to see what he can do with a full deck on offense, something we really never gave Cam. Really hope and expect Bryce to move up this list this season.
    • Not really, the only QB's (other than Anthony Richardson) ranked below him are new to their teams as a placeholder starter or drafted in 2024 or 2025, not a lot of gymnastics to get there. It's not about how many that is, if it's 20, 12, or 2... It means there isn't a QB who's team has committed to them for the long term right now that they have ranked below Bryce. That's not a great thing.
