Borland, who earned a bachelor's degree in history at the University of Wisconsin, said he plans to return to school and possibly pursue a career in sports management. He had a four-year contract with the 49ers worth just under $3 million, which included a signing bonus of $617,436.

He better not come back to manage NFL players. Playing football is a calling. You have to love it to play it, no two ways.

I can't knock him for being afraid but I choose not to live my life in fear because I know I will die someday, heck I may die tonight.

Expect more guys to retire young. In some ways the NFL is on borrowed time.

Sorry gang.

As long as there are ghettos and poverty out there and the NFL keeps offering these big contracts, people will sign up to play.

A hundred veterans are attending the veteran combine. Hundreds of college seniors are running drills this month despite the fact that there is little-to-no chance they get drafted or ever play a down in the NFL. How many guys are playing in Canada and the arena league?

I was saying last week that this is a sneaky bad thing for the Panthers since the 49ers cratering makes the Seahawks stronger. But fug it, this is just too hilarious to go negative on.

You know those 49ers fans that kept trying to crash Panthers offseason events last year? Yeah, I wonder how many of those we'll be seeing this year.

One thing to keep in mind about Luke is the way he tackles.  He doesn't go for those big hit, lower the head, highlight tackles.  He just wraps 'em up like you're supposed to and rides their azz to the ground or hits 'em with a judo toss/slam like move.

That alone is going to extend his longevity by a ton.  There's always the chance he could get concussed in a random unfortunate collision, but you can almost bet your ass that collision won't be by his doing.

I thought he was borderline concussed in Cincinnati last year. He got blindsided

If guys had better fundamentals with tackling, I have to believe concussions would be greatly reduced.

It's baffling to me how at the NFL level the tackling can be so damn god awful 75% of the time.

I have to agree with this. You see a ton of head down arm tackling, especially it seems in the secondary. Baffles me that men whos career hinges on staying healthy cant get the fundamentals down
