My Ultimate BPA Pipe-Dream 1-5 Round Mock Draft

I just don't get that pick. This board has been bitchin for years about paying running backs, but now they want another in the first round.

It was because we outrageously overpaid TWO running backs who's production was not living up to their salary. Both Williams' and Stewarts' salaries will be off the books very soon and we're going to need a running back to carry our run game like Stew did the last 2 months of last season. Gurley is an elite talent that would be cheap at the position and he would solidify our run game for years. I'd love to keep Stew but his salary, injuries, and age make that hard to do. I initially hated the idea of picking Gurley in the 1st or even the 2nd but now I've come around to it. That would be a huge addition. Not necessarily this next year, but after that.

I know we've been saying this for years, but with the contract situation the way it is, I think THIS is the year it will finally be true.  Stewart's future with this team will be decided by his performance this year.  And by performance, I mean how many games is he healthy for.  I think if that number is 14 or greater, and his play on the field is even close to what it was towards the end of last year, we'll be seeing Stewart in a Panthers jersey for a few more years.  And I'll be happy about it.

If he misses 3 or more games again, I think he's a goner.  All that being said, to attempt to relate this post to the thread - I don't think it would necessarily be impossible for Gman to spend a 1st rounder on a RB, but I just don't think this is the year it happens.  Stewart's future with the team is still a question mark.

If Gurley's there in the first we take him and Stew's gone even if he gets 2200 yards, 20 TDs and is healthy for all 19 games. If we don't get him and no other RB is BPA in the first 3 rounds then maybe we'd keep him if he has an outstanding year and is healthy, but only if he'll take a fair deal. Would have to take a pay cut for 2016 and then extend him on a reasonable deal. I love Stew but he doesn't have a lot of time left.

Guess it depends on how highly Gettleman views Gurley.  If he thinks he's a massive steal at #25, then I don't doubt he'd pull the trigger.  But I think there's too much risk with Gurley's injury history for that to be the case.

If we were going running back, I'd rather have Melvin Gordon.

Gurley is a true game-breaker.

But I can't say I disagree with you.  Gordon played in a read-option, one-cut offense in college.  Gurley didn't.  I am not sure AT ALL if the read-option wouldn't be a disaster for him.

Relatively akin to the difference between Stewie and D-Will on read option plays.

God I hope another team picks Gurley before us...

i was thinking the same thing right after my initial face palm.

having said that, he'll probably end up being the pick and in that case i'll defer to gettleman's wisdom. i just don't like the idea of another (or really any) RB in the first.

Lets draft a prospect thats coming off an ACL tear, that will work for us. I mean look at the 49ers, Lattimore worked out wonderfully for them.. Oh wait.

Huge difference. Lattimore tore EVERYTHING in his knee. AP tore his ACL and came back stronger. I know it's a different position but Thomas Davis tore his 3 times and looks as good as anyone in the league at his position.

I'm not saying it's not a risk but there is a good chance that at his Age and how stronger Gurleys legs appear to be, he should come back just fine.

I think the Saints take him in the 1st. But I don't know squat.

The Saints resigned their FA running back Mark Ingram in addition to signing Buffalo FA running back C.J. Spiller.

I don't think they'll be taking a RB in the first few rounds but, if they do, I'll laugh.

    • Fowler: Bucs 23, Panthers 16. Baker Mayfield only won a single game when he was an unimpressive Carolina starter, but somehow he’s 5-0 when playing AGAINST the Panthers. For the Panthers to pull off this upset, they’ll need to score at least in the mid-20s. With Tampa Bay relatively healthy following a mini-bye (and Mike Evans’ return is huge), it feels like this will be too tough a task. Kaye: Bucs 24, Panthers 20. The win-loss-win-loss streak comes to an end. It’s hard to trust the play-calling following the loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers know what’s on the line, but they also knew last week, too. It’ll be close; I just have trouble trusting a positive outcome after a defeating one on the road. Zietlow: Panthers 38, Bucs 35. This prediction goes against conventional wisdom, but then again, conventional wisdom doesn’t seem to apply to these Panthers. This group, after all, has yet to lose back-to-back contests since Weeks 1 and 2. I think they win this one to make Week 18 interesting — and yes, that’s even with motivated Baker Mayfield and future Hall of Famer Mike Evans in good form. Why not?
    • Sam developed into a different player after he mostly sat for a year and learned a ton by being in that QB room under Shannahan in San Francisco.  Then he went to the Vikings who have a poo load of talent and another genius level offensive mind at HC in Kevin O Connel. I think they genuinely built up his confidence in a way he never did in New York or Charlotte.  He would not have been the same player if he stayed here IMO. Especially if he had been involved in that disaster season with Frank Reich in 2023, that might have cooked his confidence for good.  I guess you could argue we wouldn't have been that bad if we also kept cmc and dj i guess.
    • Willis was impressive last night given the circumstances. GB and SF seem to just have it figured out as far as QB goes.   It's frustrating, but I enjoy seeing our old players find success elsewhere.
