maybe but not surprised.i think the Russel Wilson thread and the protection vs better weapons thread clearly suggest a different path to a Championship than we seem to be taking, but this is Gman and no one really knows what he would do until he does it.

No we don't know what Gman will do but he was influenced by all the years with the Giants and here is a simple question. Did the Giants win their two super bowls on offense or defense?

Defense, and a guy who can catch the ball on his head.Though Manning was the QB they needed Luck to put it away.since Cam is better than Luck we should be ok.

First one was with defense and the second one was Eli and the offense

Do we need someone that similar to KB? I think we'd need a different style of receiver to better compliment him

You already have complimentary receivers in all the other guys on the roster, what you don't have is a solid number 2 which instantly puts pressure on a defense to have to roll coverages one way or the other. Seems to me few teams have 2 big physical corners so if one lines up against Benjamin, then there is a mismatch on the other side if our receiver is bigger and more physical or very quick and fast. You can win both ways. But what about a guy like Strong who is big, quick, and fast. Especially if he falls to the second. Depends on the fractured wrist and how serious it is. Those injuries are tough to heal due to poor blood flow.

Interesting since we worked out Dorsett and I don't see anything linking us to Funchess.

Do you have a general hierarchy of how the team views the receivers in this class?

smoke screen, if you know ,you know. That's one thing I don't have a problem with, don't show your whole hand , leave all options open.

I haven't seen any tape on him, but his "weaknesses" on his draft profile are a concern... specifically, "Isn't a lock to high-point a throw and doesn't attack throws. Won't win enough 50/50 throws."

That's a pretty important factor when you have a big frame, but not so much speed.  Of course, you have to take that with a grain of salt, but it's a decent indicator.

and Cam consistently throws high

Why on earth would a team take this guy in the 2nd based on fact that he has never gone over 800 yards receiving. If you can't dominate at the college level, how will you dominate in the NFL?

I'm not saying college production is everything bc some players are a product of a system, but it does say something. I'm blown away with all these WRs given a 2/3rd grade and never broke a 1000 yards in college.

    • Me and you clearly have different definitions of production. If you remove the 2023 season where Thielen had just over 1k yards he is 43rd on our all time receivers list just ahead of Jonathan Mingo. And before you ask why would we remove that season? Well a couple reasons. For one thing we won a whopping 2 games. And for the biggest. Thielen was 14th in targets in 2023. We absolutely force fed him the ball all season and finished with the 32nd passing offense. For comparison sake 33 year old Jerricho Cotchery eclipsed over 1k total yards in just 2 more games and with 67 less targets than Thielen did in that 2023 season. He has above average hands. That's it. We overpaid him because we were desperate and overvalued him. That's the reality no matter how many times you or anyone else wants to quote me and get defensive about it.
    • He's played great and it was a win-win (rare free agent) for both parties.  One of the points is he hasn't made enough difference to "waste" 35 million on. Another point is by the time Panthers are hitting their prime, he would have taken snaps away from young WRs/TEs/RBs. "Thus" in the long term, hurting the teams new future "window."  But I dare think of the monkey poo of a offense the Panthers had without him the past 2 years. Lack of talent leads to many problems, including paying a 35 year old to be somewhat respectable. Hes one of few that cared enough and made a effort. Plus you know he's done great stuff in many other ways for the team, community juggernaut, leadership, etc.  Judgement is for AT and his 3 year panther career!!
    • But it has gotten a little wacky. RBs-https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/_/position/rb     A couple months ago iggles made Bark the highest guaranteed RB, jeanty was until then. That's what matters the guarantee. A rookie never played a down was the leader, until iggles howie made things right.  If a safety gets drafted in the top 8 or so, he would have the highest money too or very close to it.    Add in TEs and C too.    Even with the fixed %, the numbers are getting too much for a player that's not proven themselves.     Plus anytime a QB is drafted it screws up the contracts for players around and if next year a punter gets drafted at the same 90th spot, they want the same contract with the 5.7% increase. Teams would be laughing.    Its just reached this point. Another 10 years and I bet the vets will be crying.
