The Carson City Council unanimously approved a privately financed stadium for the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders on Tuesday night, barely two months after the public announcement of the proposed $1.7-billion project.

"There are two things we need in California: rain … and football," Carson Mayor Albert Robles said to cheers after the 3-0 decision. "And football is coming to Carson." 

The vote continued the proposal’s breakneck pace in the competition with a rival concept in Inglewood to end the NFL’s two-decade absence from the Los Angeles area. In February, Inglewood’s City Council adopted a ballot initiative for a $1.86-billion stadium as part of a sprawling mixed-use development backed by billionaire St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke and Stockbridge Capital.

Representatives of the projects will update a committee of NFL owners on their progress Wednesday during a meeting in New York.

Supporters of the Carson project needed just eight days to collect more than 15,000 signatures in support of their ballot initiative, almost twice the number required.

Like Inglewood, Carson’s City Council had the option of adopting the initiative or scheduling a public vote later this year. The prospect of transforming a long-vacant former municipal landfill site next to the 405 Freeway into a 70,000-seat stadium proved too tempting to delay.

The ballot initiative process allowed both proposals to skip lengthy environmental reviews in a race in which time is of the essence.

Wonder if this affects the Rivers situation before the draft.

 

 

Definitely, Rivers does not want to live in LA from what I've read.

MInd you, LT is still bitter towards the Chargers for being cut loose late in his career, but that was mostly the Bolt's GM at the time, since canned.

I know, I just don't know though whether this was expected anyways or if it's new to them and changes things. It doesn't guarantee the Chargers are moving.

True dat, for decades the NFL has used the threat of a move to LA to get cities to build new stadiums for their teams. Well now San Diego really has to be paying attention.

      We were bad for years before Bryce Young and it wasn’t like this. I didn’t like the Rhule hire, but I didn’t drag the board down every chance I got. I didn’t like letting Cam go and bringing in Teddy, but I didn’t make it my mission in life to make sure everybody who disagreed with me was berated into submission.

      it's pretty simple IMO.  The Tepper Panthers are the most unsuccessful professional sports team in all of sports.  The problem isn't the posters here have changed ( I still content people falsely romanticize the old days).  The product dictates the atmosphere more than anything.  In reality, the daily convos about THE worst team in all of pro sports on a fanatics site....is going to feature harsh and critical convo.  Only one entity can actually change that.  It's the Carolina Panthers football team.  if you are the most unsuccessful professional sports teams (Tepper's Panthers are that).....and a place like this isn't filled with very critical thoughts? Well, you probably don't actually have a real fanbase IMO.

      Yes message boards will always include that sort of stuff… However, this place has been a cess pool since the team took Bryce Young over CJ Stroud. It becomes a problem when it is accepted and promoted, which it has been here (even by at least one mod). Many posters sole purpose on this board is to try to dunk on others for having different opinions. We just had one write a novella on how talking about Bryce Young’s game winning drives “needs to stop”…after a win. They don’t want real conversation. It “needs to stop”. There are many posters here who literally only show up after losses to dead thread and try to dunk on others about the QB (MRenshaw is an easy example). I really don’t see much of that happening the other way around. There’s too many people that would rather the team be bad so they can feel justified for constant doom and gloom and negative opinions. It’s been pointed out by many over the past couple years. This just isn’t a place to have football discussions anymore because of the constant hyperbole. If you don’t subscribe to “Bryce Young is the worst QB ever who can’t throw the ball further than 5 yards and is the reason why we lose any game we lose and doesn’t help in any game we win”, then you are labeled a Bryce Young Stan.
