No Need for the Nickle or Dime Packages

I always thought if we drafted Shaq Thompson, that we would have a defense where all our linebackers would stay on the field 99% of the time.  Kuechly and Davis were on the field for that amount of time last year.  We even made comparisons to Derrick Brooks when it comes to Thompson, and he stayed on the field pretty much every down.  I would love to see this happen and I think we could do it successfully.

When we signed Tillman I think the common assumption was that he would play outside and Bene inside. If Shaq ends up playing 75% of snaps who sits? It would be a shame for Bene to rot on the bench - I thought he showed real promise outside. I doubt Tillman signed on just to be a mentor though.

I want Tillman at safety, either SS or FS would be fine.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Tillman start the season on the outside but Benwikere finish it.

Maybe run some 3-3-5 sets

Star, Kawann, Johnson with a blitzing TD or Luke or Shaq

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
