It Seems the Titans Had a Huge Steal

Why draft someone with known character issues when you can draft someone that doesn't have character concerns? I don't see the elite talent that many here claim he possesses.

He pushed a girl down a flight of stairs and you want to go out a buy his jersey?

He plays football and I watch playing football, I will buy his jersey if he's a Panther. Those are two things.

Depends on the reason for the problems.

If it's "wrong place, wrong time" or "youthful indiscretion" you can get past those things.

If it's "bad judgment", "not very bright", "poor decision making" or "addictive behavior", then yeah there's a pretty good chance they're gonna get in trouble again.

Those are the guys you avoid.

I think getting arrested for not wearing pants after homecoming week (or something else stupid and silly) are easy youthful indescrtions.  When it involves real crimes, or even just ugly beyond imagination kind of character things, then those are the situations where you have to avoid them.

Say for example, a college team goes to the children's ward at a hospital, and one of the star players, a future first round pick, is a jerk there to the kids.  While it's not illegal to be a douche bag, it shows a lack of empathy with other's suffering.  That kind of stuff doesn't win popularity contests, but it does make me as "what happens when this guy gets $1 million?"  That's a big red flag.

Or when a guy contantly makes terrible decicions off the field (hey Johnny Maziel!) which by themselves are just kind of kid dumb, but as a collection they point to someone who you can't trust.  Either on or off the field.

That's again where the background research and investigation goes for teams.  Its interesting to see how the public image of the NFL has forced this kind of change on players and teams.

Dude, we traded up for Funchess.  We could've traded up for DGB as well.

Funchess doesn't have the off-field baggage associated with him that DGB does. That's his point. It's not about whether we could have done it or not, it's that there was no way it was going to happen with what the organization had to put up with through Hardy last year. It's the possibility for an unnecessary headache that is easily avoidable.

Yeah, but the majority of the time with these players it isn't.

And he could very well be an exception, but there was no way in hell we were drafting the guy. I have no idea why everyone thought he was even in play for us.

Wait, we could just trade up to any spot we wanted without getting the other teams agreement?

DAMN!  I bet DG wishes he had known that *before* the draft!  We could have had the first 9 picks in the 1st round!

2 arrests for possessing weed (misdemeanors), then he allegedly forced his way into an apartment (felony) before pushing a female down a flight of stairs leading to the apartment (felony). Then getting kicked off the Missouri team and not playing for a year are more red flags.

More to the story than "bitch was just clumsy"

Wouldn't it be ironic if Funchess turns out to be every bit the receiver, and more, than DGB?

I wish DGB well working out his character issues, but I know that we got a high character receiver with nice measurables and upside also.

You're funny.

Well your "we shoulda just traded up to get him" didn't seem to take into account that a trade involves 2 teams and the other team must be in agreement.

You just waved your magic trade wand and VOILA!  We traded up ahead of Tennessee to take DGB!

With what we gave up, teams would listen, good sir.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
