Carolina Panthers Trade Up Select Oklahoma's Daryl Williams

I let Oher and Remmers fight it out during pre-season. Split the reps. Then who ever played better should get the nod.

Agreed. Remmers simply had a better season than Oher, i dont like the fact of handing him a starting spot simply because we signed him. Great coaching staff but one thing i dont like is how they cater to veteran pick ups who need to prove they can play

On one hand, I'm not happy we're giving up so many picks when we have so many needs. On the other hand, we have finally begun to address glaring holes on the offense to give us more stability on both sides of the ball. In any case, welcome to the panthers Daryl.

Point is to get guys who will make the team or at least compete to make the team. DG apparently thinks this draft is trash. Players don't "fill a need" if they don't make the squad. But if you really look at it the major needs we had...we filled.

OT - Oher, Williams, Stanford kid

WR - Boykin, Ginn, Funchess

ST - Shaq, Mayo, Artis Payne, Ginn

RB - Artis Payne

We hopefully addressed our problem with scoring inside the 25. Addressed our terrible tackling and blocking on ST. Shaq wasn't a need as much as he was a luxury but having him make Chancellor-type plays for us will huge.

Williams was a monster in the sugar bowl vs Alabama 2 years ago on the Left side. Kid is going to be a helluva RT for us. Otah type road grader also with just enough skills to be a god pass blocker from the right side. HUGE get.

Before the draft even began, this guy was my favorite RT prospect. He LOVES football and plays with such immense power it's insane. He can be what Jeff Otah was supposed to be if he wasn't a lazy slob. Love this pick. He will be our week 1 starter at RT, mark my words.

We like having a RT at both our LT and RT spots. Helps the run game, helps our running QB, and helps Shula/Cam get the ball out quicker on pass plays

for 2014, we moved a meh RT in Bell to LT

for 2015, we have at least three options at LT:

move a RT that was a worse RT than Bell to LT (Oher)

move a RT that was a better RT than Oher to LT (Remmers)

move a stud RT prospect in Daryl Williams to LT

won't be surprised if Williams wins. He's more athletic than Oher is now in his old age. Oher was a good prospect back in the day because of his athleticism (and it allowed him to do well as a rookie), but as Oher lost a step and his athleticism declined, he got worse and worse because his technique sucks and he doesn't take well to coaching

Williams is a better athlete than Oher now and apparently takes to coaching better (at Oklahoma at least). Of the RTs we are looking at for our LT spot (Oher, Remmers, Williams), Williams should win the spot. And don't count out young Martin. We didn't know we could get him when we got Oher. Gettleman might very well have wanted Martin over Oher in the 1st place

Lol?

Oher is just 28. He is in the prime of his career.

    • I just want to see a big guy with an NFL certified cannon arm suit up for the panthers again. To me, it will show that they are at least  trying to take the QB position in the direction it needs to go.   Will he throw picks? Yes. Probably a hell of a lot, but (for now) I’m strangely ok with that… for now. I at least need to see a dude that CAN make the throws with some semblance of accuracy.  This is the time to see what the QB whisperer is made of. The offensive talent is there. It’s certainly better than most rookie/journeymen QBs will ever step in to. If he can get a random dude playing at a JAG level, then I might be sold.  Andy could really surprise in the Buffalo game. He (for now) still has enough arm for Tet and XL to show what they’ve got, but we all know it’s only going to be good for 3-4 games, max. He has vet savvy, and that does account for a lot. He also has a full week of practice with all the snaps to prepare.  My best case scenario going forward: Andy plays the next 2 games nobly (winning one would be a huge bonus) giving White a chance to learn some of the playbook and develop chemistry with the players. Serviceable Andy turns in to old man Andy in game 3 and White takes the field after halftime.  A high ankle sprain (lol, sure it is) is an injury that can buy the team a LONG time for BY to ride the pine…. Maybe even IR. His peak trade value is now. Get what they can for this albatross. He’s now shown that he can be a mid level backup which does hold a significant value for the right team.  Not even in my wildest dreams do I see White being anything more than a JAG, but that’s ok. JAGs with a big arm make great bridge QBs that at least won’t have your play makers stagnating. Keeping BY under center is a 100% recipe for stagnating high ceiling (Tet/XL) dudes and/or not allowing them to take the next step in their development. Why even practice the good half of the playbook if the QB can’t make the throw? After a while, you’ve now got high ceiling guys who can only run a limited route tree. No thanks.
    • They both outstanding players and both had monster games against Jets.  We gonna need it again this week with the bills.  Go Panthers!!!!
