Brady vs the NFL: The Case that Might Knock the Football from Being the Number One Sport?

I should ban you for this race-baiting bullshit. This is the silliest poo I've ever heard in my life.

It's pretty much all he does.

This is the same guy that's always trying to discredit Kuechly.

He has nothing else to say.

For football to be knocked out of the #1 spot, there has to be something else to fill its place. Baseball is dead. Basketball is dead. Unless you're proposing that MMA is gonna become #1, which it is not, then even if NFL loses popularity it'll stay #1 for a long time.

I personally like MMA second to football. But it's too nakedly violent for America to fully embrace it. Unless I'm mistaken, the NBA is 2nd in popularity in the US. And they can thank LeBron for that. The NBA needs stars and they are currently in a golden age of talent.

Baseball is losing ground. And hockey...I'm watching game 7 of Rangers v Caps and it's great. But hockey is still struggling.

what's going to replace it? there's nothing that's close to threaten the NFL.

injuries that change the way the sport is played pose a much bigger threat than off field troubles. incidents can be blamed on a person and the NFL can distance itself from those. if the game gets watered down from too many lawsuits, then they have a problem.

it's only a big deal for the pats and those who are addicted to making moutains out of molehills.

spygate was a far bigger deal than this and even pat bandwagon fans under 25 don't have a clue about it.

in the big scheme of things it will be seen as just another thing that the pats did to cheat and even though were penalized some, they will recover and still being top in their weak division and will continue to be that way until the brady belichick era is over and even then, despite all the cheating, brady and belichick will go into the HoF and be seen as probably the best HC/QB duo in league history.

i hate them. their cheating makes me hate them even more, but i don't think this event really hurts them, their reputation, or the league.

Is a big distance from #1 to #2 sport.

The NFL won't fall that far.

Average Team Revenue (2013)

NFL: $286MM

MLB: $237MM

The NFL is vastly overrated by it's fanbase. The US isn't like the rest of the world where only one sport is relevant.

A lot of good input here.  I might sound crazy, but I believe the sport that has a lot of potential to come up the ranks and give football a possible run for it's money, is soccer.  I like the fact that the game flows without much incident.  Even when there's a foul, the game pretty much kick right off within seconds.  Of course there are no commercial breaks throughout each half of play.  With some innovation and money put into it, it could give the NFL a challenge.

Yet I believe everyone is right about this Patriot scandal not effecting the popularity of the game too much.  It could possibly lead to a lot of rule changes, and if Brady takes this thing to court and win, it could cost Goodell his job at some point.  I am pretty sure once the CBA agreement is up, I feel another lockout will come along and the player union will dig their heels in.  So if that happens again, who knows.

I think it matters a lot to Brady because "I'm Tom Brady".

Up till now he believed he was untouchable.  Guys who think that don't tend to react well when they learn otherwise.

ah, yes, America's old favorite past time. That doesn't get close to filling their stadiums.

I lost all respect for the MLB almost 30 years ago.

Fun fact.

The NFL Draft gets higher ratings than most regular season MLB games.

That sure is an impressive sports league.

Edit: I REALLY HATE WHERE THE DELETE BUTTON IS.

That is a really stupid "fun fact." Of course a single draft event got higher ratings than individual games. There's only 1 draft, there are 162 baseball games.

The MLB's 2014 attendance total of 2,442,564 was the 7th highest in league history. A league that is nearly 150 years old.

The 2014 World Series had the highest tv ratings of a WS in over a decade.

The MLB set an all-time attendance record over the first month of the 2015 season.

Baseball isn't dying like folks, especially NFL fans, want to think. It's as popular as ever. And unlike the NFL, baseball doesn't have player safety concerns or a league office that is constantly altering the game and upsetting fans. There's no guarantee that the NFL will be this popular 20 years from now. Baseball will still be marching on.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
