Bucky Brooks talks up Josh Norman

Mr. Scot

Ongoing talks are great of course, but mean little as far as the dollar amount will go.

Hopefully we can lock up all of them, but if not, I think it's pretty clear that Norman would be the odd man out.

I'm not convinced of that.

If anyone was going to give the panthers a team friendly deal it would be td.

Unless norman reaches the level of play commanding 15+ mil a year i think we retain him.

Cam will be paid very well, possibly most in nfl history (thats just how qb contracts work, whine all you want about it).

Luke is the xfactor at play here. Very possible he gets a mind blowing deal for an mlb.

Given that Norman is younger, its not so certain that he would be out before Davis.  Even if the front office loves Davis, I am not certain they should resign him at the expense of not signing Norman. Certainly hope all of them remain Panthers though.

Born in South Carolina, went to Coastal Carolina, hopefully staying home has value to Josh. He's a hell of a talent

That doesn't mean a damn thing.

Let's hypothetically say that you are single with no kids, were raised NC, and currently work in NC with an annual salary of $50k.

Would you decline a job offer in let's say Jacksonville, FL doing the exact same job with a salary of $100k?

Norman will be a career Panther and would take a hometown discount.

That hypothetical is in no way similar. This isn't just a "job" to Josh.  The team means a whole lot to him; just ask Igo. And Josh is a Preacher's son. He's not the type of guy who just wants as much money as he possibly can get because he won't be looking to buy everything in sight. Do you see him out there wearing $50,000 watches, and $100,000 suits? No. When you're making millions a year as it is, making millions more is significantly different than when you're making tens of thousands.

Might make a difference, it depends on each individual. But I don't think the difference would be double.  More like we offer 6 and someone else offers 7.   A million more a season might be enough to get him to leave, but for some, being in comfortable surroundings means a lot.

Fwiw, I wouldn't move to Jacksonville or anywhere else in Florida unless they tripled my salary.  Make it Hawaii, and we might talk.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
