Dan Graziano breaks down Newton vs Brees and Ryan

You took it in about as much of a negative light as one can.  The analysis was spot on, and Cam isn't a very good pocket passer.  Can he get better?  Yes, but right now.  His stats show him being a pretty average QB passing wise.

What makes him average as a passer in your opinion? Total yards? Passing touchdowns? Completion %?

Hell, I would love to see Newton throw for 300+ yards every game. It would be entertaining sure, but it would likely mean that our defense is getting gashed to pieces. It's nice to put up a ton of yards, but who really gives a poo if your team is getting their asses kicked. Just ask the Saints when they're getting blown out at home, and Brees is padding his numbers.

That's why I absolutely loved the analysis.  Because we are winning and beating these NFC South teams like we have never done.  If Cam can continue this success in the Playoffs, I don't give a fug if he passes for 1 TD and 150 yards as long as we continue to win.

Ok so what does a slightly above average pocket passer plus the Greatest running QB of all time equal?

Ill take that every day of the week. Cams by far a good enough passer right now to get the job done, and he's just getting started.

Cam still probably does not have the amount of reps a guy like Luck had while he was still in college, and Cams going into his 5th year in the pros...

The only problem I have with this commentary is him saying to compare Cam's and Ryan's passing numbers is "silly". If you compare apples to apples, both guys first 4 years in the league, it isn't silly at all. They are damn near identical.

I don't think that Newton just forgot how to be an accurate passer. His deep ball was a thing of beauty his rookie year.

It's worth considering just exactly how much of a toll his running these past 4 years periodically in games has taken on his mechanics in terms of the habits it has created. Which is why so many of us were thrilled to see how much he had excelled in the pocket early on last year, then when our OL went to poo he had to rely on his legs again, and his accuracy was affected as a result.

He was accurate as fug too those early games, but we were getting butt fuged because our defense couldn't stop anything.  Thank you DeCoud, Cason, and White.

I didnt take it THAT negatively. I appreciated him giving Cam some props.  I just didnt agree with his position that Cam was winning because he is more athletic..  If Cam didn't make the clutch throws from the pocket that he has in the past, I think there would be very few people that would that would agree that Cam is HALF as good as he is, and we would be having a much different conversation.

He is clutch, and he talked about him winning in December when it matters.  I mean, he came off about as well as one can come off without blatantly kissing his ass.

We can agree to disagree.  I didn't think it was a terrible analysis or that he was disrespectful to Cam or anything.  I just think that no quarterback is good because of the way they run, and i felt like thats how he portrayed Cam.  It was nice to hear him give credit to Cam, but i think he short changed him a little bit when it comes to how good of a passer he is.

Left my phone at home today... It's been a boring day at work and I don't want to poop in fear of not being entertained.

I cant poop anymore without my phone or ipad.  Its crazy.  Like, I'll debate how bad I really have to go if my battery is low.

How can anyone fairly evaluate Cam as a passer when he's never even had a decent supporting cast outside of his rookie season

All right Goody. I knew you had it in you. Your actually defending a Panther player, with very logical reasoning. Pie for you.

    • Also, the fact we are comparing this one to the 10 preseason tells me we are in for another horrible year.
    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
