Russell "Golden Calf of Bristol" Wilson

I pray for guidance on every major decision.

And as much as I believe that God does indeed provide guidance, the majority of the time when I see Christians saying God told them to do something, what they really mean is one of two things:

"Don't hold me accountable for my choices. Blame God."

or...

"You can't question any part of my decision because it's what God told me to do."

One of the more frequent uses I've seen is in breakups, i.e. "God told me to break up with you and date this other girl". Yeah...Sure he did.

I have zero respect for Christians who try to avoid responsibility or make their decisions unassailable by attributing them to God.

"I prayed about it." Great.

"God told me to do it." Yeah, right.

To sum up, Christians think there poo don't stink, RW is yet another one that thinks his faith has some bearing on the outcome of a game . If I were religious that would seem more resentful. His arrogance is dis likable,

I don't really care about the guys personal life.

But in regards to football, he seems to be buying into his own hype, and that's all well and good when things are going well. But if things aren't going well, people are going to turn on him in a hurry, especially his fans, and that will only be amplified if he gets that huge contract he wants. He better be prepared for that.

I've been a Christian for over 40 years and the majority of my close friends are longtime Christians as well.

I'm not a fan of stuff like this, and I sincerely doubt any of my friends would endorse it either.

exactly. The point is that it sounds arrogant. His arrogance is what is at the center of his unikeableness.

Russell will ride this to a sponsorship deal with KY Jelly.

RW ~ "When I fap, I only use water soluble KY Jelly.  When I am trying to portray an image to the media, i can't be bothered by hand soap burning my piss hole.  KY allows me to fap and still sell my goodie-two-shoes persona to the world without having to worry about a chaffed shaft.  Thank you, KY.  KY, all the glide, nothing to hide."

I have no idea if Russell Wilson's faith is real or phony.

I do know that in 40 years as a Christian, God has never once told me to date a certain girl or to hold out for a higher salary.

Fair point.... But in all of your 40 years of being A Christian... how many years have been a starting QB for a superbowl winning franchise?  Faith may be the same, but the context is different.

I think that in the same way that you have no idea if his faith is real or phony... you can also say that you have no idea what it means to have to be a 20 something year old multi-million dollar superbowl winning QB, whose trying to live out his faith in light of public scrutiny. Granted, I would have never told this story... it seems a bit premature. But he's young, and he'll learn.

And I don't think we could call what Russell's doing "holding out." They're negotiating. He's proven his worth in a very short amount of time. There's no reason for him to think he doesn't deserve the same type of money Cam Newton gets. And I hope he gets it....

    • I'd be very interested in seeing someone point me to a post saying any Panthers fans are unhappy with winning? We're happy the team is winning, but we're still unhappy with Bryce's play ON THE WHOLE. Yes, we recognize he's had a handful of good games, but even in them, he's still not making the type of plays/throws that high level QB's make, at least not on a consistent basis, one or two of those throws every few weeks does not make him a high level QB. Many of us are also able to look at what we see in front of us on the field and extrapolate that out to the future, and we don't see Bryce's play as a way for sustainable success.  If he was anyone else other than our own #1 overall draft pick, say if he was a mid rounder now in his 3rd season here or if he was a FA we picked up at some point, the same fans bowing down to him right now would be calling for him to be replaced and saying he was holding back the team.
    • I was going to add those types of throws as acceptable. I just didn't want to type all that out. In both cases it takes qb control to complete and are rare throws and completions. You may not see 1 an entire game. Most passes require adjustment due either to coverage or a rushed throw.
    • Not 2 seasons in on a guy who everyone knew needed time to round out. Maybe he will, maybe he won't, yet want everyone to have the patience of a saint for Bryce. You all are funny. Kibitzing, huh? Am i breaking up your circlefest or something?
