More Russell Wilson contract "news"-Summary:It's great to be a Panther fan

Some of those fools recently brushed off signing RW to big money as being OK because they'd "only lose Hauschka, Kearse, Irvin, Okung, et al types of players as a result".  Bwahaha!!!  Those are EXACTLY the players/types of players that've been the difference vs us.  Hauschka with a 58 yard bomb after we'd controlled the game, Kearse with a game winner in 13 and great/lucky/fluke one hander in the playoffs (the only TD Bene gave up all year), Irvin with multiple sacks and a unique skillset to pester Cam, etc.  and what if we have Okung instead of Bell last year?  We probably win even last year with one arm behind our back, nevermind the goody-goodness GMan has cooked up since.

Their FO is screwed either way.  And I love it.

If he is going to be a dick I wouldn't even franchise him.  Or at least not twice.  He is good, I have always stuck up for him.  But he ain't that damn good (25 mill then 30 mill on tags).  If he doesn't make a commitment to you it is time to search for alternatives.  Keep that defense together and they will still be playoff caliber no matter what.

Glad we got our guy locked up at a reasonable price (as far as QB contracts go)

They sound just trade him for a ransom. He isn't that great and they can keep their star studded team intact and add even more talent. The Golden Calf of Bristol can hand the ball to Lynch and cheer on their defense.

Its funny cause, Seattle only needed a QB who didnt completly poo the bed and throw boneheaded picks to be 2x Superbowl Champions.

They would have throttled the Packers with even a very mediocre QB performance.

You don't really believe that right? Like seriously? You're just basking in the Russell Wilson hate, you know, the kind that reminds me of when a friend gets a nicer car and you make fun of him because he doesn't get good gas mileage.

Lol I liked this quote

It's not that Wilson wants to hit free agency, according to a source who has spoken with him. It's that he wants to be paid as if he did. Meanwhile, thoughts of a fully guaranteed contract have not left his mind, especially with an agent who regularly negotiates such deals with baseball players.

So, Wilson doesn't want to leave the Hawks... he just wants "free agent type money" AKA Raider type money, all the while he still gets to stay on by far the best team in football.

This dude is a straight up clown.  Can't have your cake and eat it too, Russ.

How can this be? According to many  NFL medias narratives. Cam was supposed to be the selfish, pouting, immature QB, and Wilson the selfless, mature team player. I'm confused.

14/29, 209 yards, 1 TD and 4 INT. Alex Smith could have won that game against the Packers.

I really don't like the precedent this little fuger is trying to set either.  Sure, it's funny to laugh at the Hawks for now, but this baseball type negotiation bullshit needs to stay in baseball.

I say laugh away.  We got our man until 2020, and our cornerstone guys in Luke and Cam have "football" agents.  So did Russ, until he went rogue all by his lonesome.

The league lead by owners like JR aren't going to allow it to become baseball.  No worries mate.

why is my post wrong? Did you watch the NFCCG and the superbowl? He was abysmal. Not saying he is a below average QB, but he sure did play like one in those two games.

Seattle doesnt need a great QB to win games, just a QB that doesnt throw picks and ruin it for them, which he almost did vs the Pack. Still blows my mind how that they still won despite a 4 int game from Russell

if they were smart they would trade him for multiple first round picks and make that team even stronger. That team doesn't need much from the QB position to be great. The NFCCG and the superbowl backs that up. Take the ball out of the QBs hand and pit it in the RBs and they are repeat champs.

He's right.  RW may have had a great start to his career but he was horrid in that game among others.

    • I feel like this trade just lives rent free in people's heads and keeps morphing into different things. First thing is that the rumored trade was for future firsts. They wouldn't have any extra picks in 2023; the firsts would have been for 2024 and 2025. With very few exceptions, NFL GMs don't value picks that far away. You have to have a lot of job security to pull that off. Like Chiefs, Eagles, Rams kinda stability. That's obviously not the case with David Tepper, especially since he'd just fired his head coach. No GM except for like Howie Roseman is going to trade an asset you have now for a future asset you probably get to use.  Second, at the time you'd have to assume these are first rounders late in the first round. Obviously currency is currency and the panthers need young players, but these weren't slam dunk top ten picks. At the end of the day there's one pick that separates a first and second round pick.  Lastly, the only place that ever reported this trade was the Rams. All the reporters just repeated what McVay said and it became gospel. We have no idea how serious the negotiations were, if they ever really happened, if the offer was real, etc. And I personally believe McVay and Sneed are the kind of guys who would make up rumors like that to fug up other teams, mostly because I assume if I've thought of it someone smarter than me has.  I don't know how you'd call it the greatest draft haul of all time. Firsts quickly lose their value the farther out they are and Burns had 16.5 sacks last season. And anyway those picks would probably just been tossed into the burning inferno of the Bryce trade up so it's a moot point anyway.
