The battle for the #3 wr

I hope Ginn can become the #3 WR b/c he is the only receiver we have on the team that truly has the speed to take the top off of a defense.  I think of the receivers that left after the 2013 Season (Smitty, LaFell, Ginn, Hixson), Ginn was the only one I think the Panthers truly wanted to keep.

Obviously, you saw how downhill our return game went last year (though in fairness it wasn't just the returner- the blocking and coverage sucked).  But beyond being just a premier returner, for whatever reason Ginn has more of a connection with Newton than any other QB he's played with.

Ginn as the #3 allows the Panthers to do a lot more schematically than the other choices. Ginn's speed prevents constant 8 man boxes which allows the threat of Newton running to be that much more dangerous.

Why do you think the Panthers were so willing to give Stephen Hill a chance?  The Panthers tried to use Corey Brown in that position last year out of necessity, but to me, I see Brown best playing the role Hixson did in 2013 as the #4 WR.

I still think Cochery ends up as the #5 WR due to his veteran leadership and presence.  Beyond that, I am intrigued by Damiere Byrd like a lot of the rest of you, but I think the Panthers will be able to stash him on the PS.  If they do keep 6 WR's, I wouldn't be opposed to them keeping Byrd b/c the 6th WR is mostly inactive, and I honestly don't see why the Panthers would keep Bersin, Boykin, or anyone else over Byrd given his upside.  I guess the only thing Bersin and Boykin have working in their favor in ST ability.

You lost me on the first comment.  Brown is nearly as fast as Ginn.  I would also venture to say that Brown is a better route runner too.

I agree part of the reasons for Hill hanging around was his speed.

I think with Proehl as our WR coach the "Veteran Leadership" is not as necessary as a team without a coach like him.  I would rather listen to a Vet/Coach of 20+ years over a journeyman WR with 6 or 7 years.

If Cotchery makes it....he makes it because he is a better receiver than the others.  Keeping him as a vet IMO makes no sense.

    • Not many people talking about DT, but we have a need.  (DE)  Now this guy is a NT like Brown III
    • But is it about letting Bryce develop or about winning games? Bryce has not been good enough to be an uncontested starter. He just hasn't. How many times has last drive Bryce shown up for 4 entire quarters? Once in 3 seasons? You aren't going to win 9 or 10 one score games every season year in and year out. You may want Bryce in the last 2 minutes. I want that Bryce the full 60.  No one is saying you have to give up on him, but bringing in another QB that can do anything is not hindering Bryce. It helps the team and that's where the focus needs to be. If drafting Sadiq to plague the middle of the field would help out offense, but Bryce struggles to get pass into the middle of the field, is Sadiq a bad pick? Or could he be a good pick with a better option at QB? We can't be afraid to improve. QB, TE, OL, LB, DL, CB, S. It doesn't matter. The goal is SBs, not 5 to 8 years seeing waiting to see if Bryce can develop while the rest of the league keeps passing us by.  Sadiq is a nice option, but I think we have to address tackle if one we like is there because we are painfully thin after this year, a LB to general the field, and a true ball hawking safety that can set the tone in the secondary. Those 3 positions are bigger game changers than a TE that will likely struggle to make a round 1 impact in this offense.
    • Lil Stanky 100% in the dot tonight... And our 2nd line has been our best offensive line this season. Maybe our 2C really was on the roster this whole time...?
