In other Luke Kuechly contract news: Lavonte David gets 5-year $50.25 million extension

How many of these threads are we going to have? Luke is in his own league of linebackers, so lets not compare him with these scrubs.  honesty don't think money is a concern for him. He is a class act, organization first type of guy. He is committed to winning a championship here in Carolina and he will get paid fairly and be a Panther for life. There is no chance the Panthers organization will let him go anywhere else and I don't think he would even want to. He will hold that Lombardi over his head in a Panthers uniform one day. take that to the bank

Uh, Lavonte David is arguably the best 4-3 OLB in the league.  Wagner is the only other one I've seen discussed on here, and Wagner is the 2nd best MLB in the league after Luke.

So yeah, those two contracts setting the market very much so effect Luke's contract talks.  Those 3 are the new generation of 4-3 LBers.

I posted it because it's good news for us.  It means Luke is probably going to get in the $11 million/yr range rather than the $12-15 million/yr range like people were speculating a while back.

If people want to say that Matt Ryan is literally Ryan Leaf then that's fine by me. He's a better Matt Hasselbeck at best and he did that thing that pissed us all off(you know what it is).

Lavonte David is a beast on and off the field and doesn't get nearly enough recognition for it, his good name should not be soiled here!

    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
    • It is goofy how some people hate Bryce so much that they're flat out lying to try and remain entitled to their pessimism. It's insanity. Most fans are realists and eagerly awaiting the season to see if we get pre- or post-benching Bryce to start the season and how much he is able to do with some young and developing weapons. Many of us understand that these young guys are going to have growing pains on the job as well as the new defense, but the fans with all of the excuses for why Bryce can't be successful are pounding the no excuses drum. Personally, I'd prefer the Keep Pounding drum.
