Starters at WR not set in stone yet per Reed

At this point,  I don't know whether Ron Rivera is blowing smoke, or being real,  but Yahoo Sports (per Steve Reed of the Associated Press) is reporting that our wide receiving corps is still "in flux", so much so that even Corey Brown is playing.

"Normally Rivera rests his starters for the final preseason game, but said Brown and a few others will play Thursday night at Pittsburgh because they have something to prove with roster cuts coming."

Perhaps the coach-speak has finally been put on hold with all the dropped passes against the Pats and Monday's practice. Maybe Gettleman has FINALLY lit a fire up under Rivera's tail and brought back some common sense to the situation.  I hope so anyway.  "Competition" is not supposed to be a rhetorical phrase.

I love how any good idea has to be due to Gettleman talking some sense into Rivera and any bad one Is Rivera's alone. Huddle fan speak.

At the end of the day, it's about guys catching balls and getting us first downs. It's what they've done their entire lives to  get themselves to the NFL. They don't have to be stars, just steady pass catchers that help move the ball down the field. Olsen will be our leading pass catcher. Everyone else just needs to catch when thrown to. It's as simple as that.

I've learned over the many year I've been on here, that a lot of the fans aren't very bright. Not to be mean, just saying. But that goes with any fan base of any team

I want Rivera to have a pre-game, media-captured comeapart against Shlittsburg, with multiple camera angles, screaming at the the top of his lungs at the WR corps while bearing his third nipple, "AIN'T NONE OF YOU MOTHERFUGGERS MADE THIS TEAM YET!!  KICK ASS OR GET THE FUG OFF MY FIELD!!!!"

Then Hannah Storm can look back at the camera and mouth, "Oh my God!".

After seeing Rivera's apparent unwillingness to get someone else in the game last Friday and sit Brown down,  he gets no benefit of the doubt from me.  And I have been one of his staunchest supporters.

brown was in there to see what he could. That is the whole point of the preseason. He came in late to boost his confidence after stinking up the joint in the first half. The bigger question is why Boykin hasn't played more. Sure he is inconsistent in practice but then again so was Delhomme and countless others who are gamers not practice warriors. I think given how bad Brown has sucked after looking much better last year they are giving him every chance to show he has improved versus going through a sophomore slump.

That's all fine and good and one way to handle it,  but it doesn't necessarily speak to honest competition.  Brown stunk up the joint and probably cost others an opportunity to get some playing time in to show what they can do. At the end of the day, he is playing Thursday, as well he should be. He still has something to prove, the same as the others vying for a roster spot.

The thing for me is knowing him, he's super passionate about the game and a hard worker so it's nothing mental.  Also, he knows how to move around when a play breaks down or is extended having playing with Tyrod and Logan.  I personally don't get it.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
