Final Panthers Cuts

Yeah, in my projected cuts at RB, I had Fozzy the odd man out for the reasons Jeremy listed above.  He just looked the most average and unimpressive of the group, and Todman's speed/quickness makes Fozzy fairly expendable, as that was his role.

That being said, I have no ties to any player at the position really.  I wouldn't be broke up with any decision they made there, but I feel the best group is Stew, CAP, Todman, Wegher.  I think Rivera's attachment to Fozzy will make their decision very difficult though.

lol at Fozzy will definitely clear waivers but weghers won't. Weghers is almost, just almost as overrated as Lee Ward was on these boards. Fozzy proved to be a very useful player last year. He was the only RFA signed to a 2 year deal and was a captain last night with Klein and Jansen. It would be such a stupid decision to cut him for Wegher who hasn't proved a thing against first stringers.

On this, we agree.

I think Fozzy played only sparingly last night because he's safe, and I agree he should be. He's arguably the best screen pass runner we have.

The fight for the final RB spot was between Wegher and Todman, and I think Todman won.

And while it is very possible Wegher gets picked up on waivers, I don't buy that it's an absolute lock.

yup couldn't agree more. Fozzy is the perfect 3rd down complement out of the backfield. He's the best receiving back and has a resume  in the NFL. I would be furious if Fozzy is cut for Wegher.

Big mistake if we cut Wegher IMO.  Dude has the physicality and skills to be a starter in the league.  If he gets a step or two before contact, he is getting 3+ yards every carry.  He gets low and drives forward with his legs, plus he has the vision to pop it outside and the speed to make the corner.  Plus he seems to be doing good on ST coverage.

Todman is fast and a great scat-back but he needs space to really get going.  While he's perfect for the random screen pass or RB draw, he's not even close to an every down back.  Same with Fozzy, but Todman shows a lot more burst and speed.

Here's to hoping we keep 4 RBs: J Stew, CAP, Wegher, and Todman.

    • I think he has closed the gap a little bit between him and a backup coming in and badly showing him up.  But not so much that someone could not come in and make the offense look like Andy did in Seattle week 3 2023. That poo was night and day to Bryce was putting out.  So, they are in a sense playing with fire by getting rid of Dalton and actually trying to bring in someone to push him.
    • Some people have been beaten down so long they have no standards. Can't be reasoned with.
    • Getting better, might be fairly charitable. We finished 1-3 with the pressure on. That is for sure not trending up.  I don’t see a clear run of performances that prove he has taken it to another level. Not yet.  I would say he played really well in the WC game. And folded on that last series where we still had a chance. I think he threw one good ball. That last series is the kind of thing a player is supposed to learn from and not repeat. We have to see him do it before we can credit him for doing it.    I would also say he has not done enough of playing at his ceiling and what we should expect as the game in game out norm is still not established.  We gonna get MNF in SF or we gonna get the WC game? Seattle or Atlanta yardage record?   Besides that he has three years of horrendous play to start the season hanging over him. Are we going to get that again or will he be over that? We can’t know that. Mind you, that isn‘t two of three it is three of three he has yet to play well to start the year as a pro. Ofer.    So, many questions remain.    As far as weapons and help… said it before. Fix the OL so we can protect him.  It is time for a 1.1 pick in his 4th season, third year in the same offense, to elevate the players we have given him. You can’t keep up the level of investment dedicated to propping him up, you have to prop up the defense too and get some balance.
