Yea, the Panthers have allowed the fewest but our defense hasn't.  As someone pointed out in another thread, the Baltimore and Denver defenses have allowed equal to or fewer than our defense.  Splitting hairs, but I kinda like having the whole picture :)

We are far from being the number 1 defense. Way too many mistakes.

I'd say we're a healthy Luke Kuechly and Star Lotuleilei from being pretty close.

I would very much disagree. Our safeties are awful.

God I hope Luke's OK.  He gave himself a pretty good hit.  Even tried desperately to get back up.  The guy wants to play.  But IDK if he'll pass concussion protocol after that kind of hit before Sunday morning when the game day roster has to be in.

Doesn't matter when the front 7 completely shuts down the run game, gives the QB no time to throw, Luke/TD are roaming in the middle and Norman has the #1 WR locked down. 

Get Kuechly/Star healthy and they can stick a Huddler at FS.

A game without Lotulelei & Kuechly. The premise of that conversation is that even with those two back we aren't elite. Which is absurd. We held Jax to 9 points with a top 5 DT & arguably the best defensive player in the league on the sideline. 

Stick Kuechly in the middle of the field and Lotulelei clogging up the middle and it's a different ballgame. They were double teaming Johnson. Try that with Star/KK beside him and 330+ pounds is gonna be slamming your QB into the ground. 

 

Yes, I'm saying that even with Star and Kuechly, we have major holes at safety and defensive end. We are top 15. Maybe even to ten, but we are not an elite defense from what I saw today.

Coleman is pretty awful. Did he even get a tackle? I think I saw him whiff like 5 times.

Awful is a very strong word to describe our safeties. I would describe them as average. When you get absolutely no pressure on the QB until the 4th quarter, they will definitely look average. But with a healthy Luke and Star, the front 7 should run in perfect harmony allowing our DB's to feast on shitty throws.

As many missed tackles and coverages they had today, I would say they looked awful. It was brutal.
