“We were a team who maybe we peaked a little too early (last season),” Delhomme said. “We kind of peaked around Thanks-giving through December. We might have peaked a little too early. ... Teams get hot. It's the NFL.

“You get rolling. Just like Pittsburgh when they won that first Super Bowl. They were the last team in. It's just getting hot at the right time. I think the Giants were the same way in the '07 season. That's the way the season goes. It goes in waves. You want to be as consistent as possible and be hot and running when the playoffs start.”

Makes you wonder what it takes for a team to "peak"? We know it happens, but what's the special something that makes it happen? Sure would be nice to see it happen this year...

“I probably wouldn't say frustrated,” Muhammad said of the exhibition slate. “I would say some hunger has built up here, and I don't know if you can pull a lot of positives from losses, but in this situation, I think you can. I think one positive thing is that this team is ready for a win.

“The starters who are going to play the whole season are ready to get out there and play a whole game. I can't wait for next week.”

:iagree:

I think the peak last year was the Panther's peeking around the corner, past Arizona and straight to the NFC Champ game.

AZ had done miserable on the east coast. Carolina was undefeated at home.

Everything lined up for a win. Even the first drive the Panthers drove down and scored. And at that moment, they fully peaked for 2008.

and shame that when we reached the top of that peak there was a cliff.....b/c we fell all the way down to ground zero.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
