Don't be shocked if Luke is out again this week

You hope so, and I would think they would check that. I will say though, Sidney Crosby had a bit of an issue like this. He had concussion symptoms for months before they found out that he had a slight spinal injury that required surgery. He was cleared and good to go after the procedure, but it took over half the NHL season before doctors figured out what was up.

I'm not saying this is what's happening with Luke and with that kind of hit I think it's certainly more obvious to check for spinal issues in addition to concussion symptoms. Just kind of thinking out loud I guess.

Well that's terrifying.  When I first saw the hit the thing that stood out to me the most was how his head went into his torso.

Since I can't edit, I was wrong about the surgery part. He did have a neck injury, but by the time they actually found it the injury had been healed, according to the reports I'm reading.

Like others have said and I'll second, I said last week that I'm fine with both Star and Luke out until Seattle. Optimally they are healed and play when healthy regardless of the week. But we play Seattle in a month. I'm totally fine with waiting until then. Seems the most prudent course to take. Of course the coaching staff could think differently if we stumble this week. But I think if we play well this week they may just let it ride.

The hit to me looked more like a spine injury than a concussion from the very beginning

If it were a spine injury, he wouldn't be held out of practice due to the independent doctors not clearing him for the concussion.  Spinal injuries do not require the use of independent doctors to clear the player.

Ultimately, research indicates 4-6 weeks recovery time for a more severe concussion.  Head injuries have a way of compounding if not aloud enough time to properly heal.  With the fact that he plays MLB, a very head injury prone position, and that we just paid this man millions of dollars.  I say let him sit till after the bye week.  Better than losing him for the season or worse.

well if the good Dr. Jenkins says it, I can stand behind it!

The more time you give him to heal, the better. We are fortunate to be a in a position with Brees out, being at home, etc, that we can get away with sitting him.

The concussion really scare me because you often hear about guys who start to have them and suffer from them the rest of their careers. I hope he continues to have a long successfully career, but man... you can't help but think of Dan Morgan.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
