According to @spotrac, Charles Johnson's $20.02 million cap hit is the fourth largest in the NFL this season http://ow.ly/SOKwx

Good grief. He hasn't been worth it the past three games. Not even close. And this injury? Ugh. Think about the money last year and this year forked over towards DE. Not money well spent.

Don't get me wrong, I love big money but sheesh....

I for one think it's cool as hell that a player is reinvesting in Charlotte, in a restaurant/bar close to the stadium that fans can visit. I mean, Dan Morgan's place was out in fuging Ballantyne. Good for him. I'm not sure what else a multimillionaire is supposed to do during the off season.

well that's the thing it's not the offseason. If he wouldn't be working on the project if he wasn't injured then I believe it should wait until the offseason. Focus on getting healthy and mentoring those younger defensive ends, lord knows they need it. Just comes across wrong, like the kid who stays home sick and plays video games all day. Nothing really wrong with it, just gives off the wrong impression to fans on where your head is. We're selfish as fans, we want to hear about how hard he's going to work to get back, not about his business ventures that he all of a sudden has time for.

Considering Big Money's considerable injury struggles the past two seasons and the fact that he has a $15M cap hit next year with $11M in cap savings if he is release, enjoy CJ when he comes back in week 12.  We'll be watching his final games as a Panther.

guess we should get ready for the double dip at de

Maybe. Maybe not.

Remember, next year we may actually have some free agent money, and Gettleman's philosophy is to use free agency for immediate needs and draft BPA

I dont think the team will have as much as people think. they will pay norman.  If they decide to keep Allen. Alot of the money is there.  Whats CJ's contract look like next year?

I don't agree that Johnson was "stinking it up" but I do see him going into the coming offseason with an age-health-contract ratio that's not in his favor.

I could legitimately see this being his last year in Carolina.

yeah i wouldnt be surprised if its his last year. and honestly, if he is not willing to take a massive pay cut for future years, i dont want him here either.

As I recall, Johnson is easier to cut after this year (I'd have to look it up).

Allen could possibly extend or restructure, or just be cut. None of his salary is guaranteed.

And much as I hate it, I'm not absolutely convinced we keep Norman.

You are, not 'we are.' Most of the rational adults don't feel that way. He's a grown man being paid millions of dollars; he'll work hard to get back in the game. I'd rather he actually do that than just instagram about it. I don't need someone telling me that they're working hard on social media. I do expect to hear about new business ventures that they're working on through social media. I'm glad he's investing in the community, specifically a fan-friendly venture, as he could have just invested in real estate or fast food franchises.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
