Natural talent or a flash in the pan?

I have been trying to remember a time when a DE who never played a down in the NFL regular season, was a UDFA  and straight off a practice squad, did what Ryan Delaire did yesterday. I have watched many years of football and can not recall such a thing. Some will say it is a revenge game for him.......but natural talent is hard to hide.

The guy looks as quick as a cat off the line. Amazing that D.G and his scouting staff can see this when other teams do not. I know it's just one game,  but to come in and ball like he did is really amazing. A diamond in the rough for sure....  D.G pulls the strings and it happens.

I'm far from about to anoint him the next JJ watt, but the kid did look incredibly quick.  Only thing with him is that he could use a little more size to be a bit more effective in the run game, but if he can keep some of that quickness and add about 10 pounds of mass, that kid could be what we wanted Ealy to be.

This guy is probably going to make Allen quickly become some quality depth. Delaire looked like he was shot out of a cannon every play while Allen reminded me of a skinny Haynesworth. It's probably an age thing, but I just think it's funny to see that an UDFA could be starting over a 2X NFL sack leader as well as a 5X Pro Bowler after his first game.

well, one could question, why didn't carolina bring him in instead of the bucs, and when he was cut, why didn't we bring him in then?  There may be more about this kid than we know.

In the article about him I saw, we targeted him as a Priority UDFA after the draft, but he chose Tampa (presumably because of their dearth of pass rush talent).  My guess about the redskins situation was that we felt "okay" at DE with CJ and Kony ealy, but with CJ's injury and Ealy's really poor performances, G-man decided to look into other options.

He was playing like someone lit a fire in his britches. Loved his energy and quickness. I think he will continue to impress.

As as far as Allen- he didn't do anything stellar but he was engaged and consistent, I'm definitely not writing him off. He is a huge addition to the squad.

Hopefully this lights a fire under Ealy's ass. Maybe with his flexibility we could turn him into a DT with how thin it seems to becoming after cole left with the underwhelming performance of Dwan Edwards as of late. However, Ealy, as of now, is strictly looking like a rotational guy.

"The Panthers tried to work him out immediately after he was cut, but Washington offered a practice squad job so he went there instead. He made his way to the Panthers just in time, as they put veteran end Charles Johnson on IR/designated for return last week."  http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/10/05/panthers-find-a-pass-rusher-not-the-one-they-expected/

he signed with the bucs as am udfa.  We targeted him,  but he chose them.  And when they released him the skins were higher on the waiver write and picked him up before we could get him.

I felt something good was up when we signed him straight to the 53, having never heard of him. Now we know why.

They didn't have a choice.

If you sign a player off another team's PS, you are required to add him to the 53 man roster for at least 3 weeks.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
