Early Nostalgic Music Memories

What was the first song(s) you remember that was not kiddie music.

Since we have had a hate Kiss thread, I wont post Rock and Roll All Night. 

and still my favorite song of all time...

Mrs Robinson.  I watched The Graduate at a very young age.  I think there are other Simon and Garfunkle songs in that movie as well.

When i was in second grade I sold candy for our church athletic club and ended up coming in second place for candy sold, and won a nice Lloyds AM/FM radio that kind of looked like this:

 

I spent all that next summer sitting on my stoop listening to the local pop stations - summer 1972 was an amazing time for pop music, but Stevie Wonder in particular was a revelation to me.

Herman's Hermits, Eric Burden and the Animals, The Turtles, The Ventures, Grass Roots a lot of early R&B and Motown...

Then FM radio came along and essentially segregated music and each format had their own station. Before FM, when AM was all there was, you could hear a Roger Williams tune followed by the early Stones, then Marvin Gaye...

But yeah, I grew up thinking Michael Jackson was the greatest ever (I still think he is tbqh)... I also have memories of a classic rock compilation cassette that my dad had that had a mix of stuff like Kansas, Mountain, the Doobie Brothers, and Midnight Star.

Another nostalgic music memory is the Eddie and The Cruisers movies. My dad liked them back in the day and some of the music in them was in circulation at the time.

Looking at the songs that have been mentioned made me realize I'm probably twice the age of most of you.  Sigh.

Well, the first song I remember is Dancing Men by Buddy Rich and his orchestra.  My dad is a big jazz and swing fan and he had a Buddy Rich live record he used to play all the time.  About 30 years later I was in a friend's car and he put on a CD that was a tribute to Buddy and the first song was Dancing Men.  Absolutely floored me.  That song to this day will put me in a good mood.
