30 for 30 tonight (PR)

So, I'm watching this 30 for 30, actually its over so I watched it. A few things jumped out at me, and one of them could really come into play if it's close come Sunday.

The 30 for 30 episode is the 2006 Rose Bowl between the then Dynasty USC Trojans and the Texas Longhorns.  Here's a few things that jumped out at me:

1- Texas was ahead of it's time with what they were doing with Vince Young. He and Cam were very similar stature wise. Texas was running the spread, which is now a norm not only in College football, but can be seen accross the League now.

2- Dwayne Jarrett caught a TD in that game. What a bust that guy turned out to be.

3- (This is the good one) Pete Carrol essentially lost USC the game when he called a Lyndell White run on 4th and 1 from their own 40 with less than 2 min left. White, as we know was stuffed and Young went on to lead Texas for the win. (Something we see Cam doing today)

Anyways, really long story short, Pete Carrol is known to not get the short yardage, game on the line calls to go his way, seemingly ever. First White on 4th and 1. One has to wonder if that play was going through his mind with SEA on the one to win the Super Bowl. Was he haunted by making the wrong call at the Rose Bowl? Is this why they passed it instead? We'll never know.

What we do know is that the call costed him the game. FF to this year in  OT against the Rams, and it's déjà vu all over again. The game is once again on the line, and once again he calls the wrong play and Beast Mode is stopped cold.

The bottom line here is this. If the game is close, and Pete Carroll has to make a play call, I'm confident in his ineptitude to make the correct call, and even more confident in our D to stop them.

Having said all of that, I don't think it will be close, but I couldn't help but wonder and make those correlations during the episode. Who knows how many other short yardage situations he's failed at in between. What can likely conclude is that he's likely tormented by those 3 calls to this very day. Lyndell White said that he thinks about that 4th and 1 every single day, when he was asked. You can bet your bottom dollar that Carroll is as well.

Something to think about going into Sunday.

Additionally, it can be argued, that we gmhave beat ourselves everytime we play them. From Deangelo's fumble to Cam's errant pick in the playoffs. If we can get into the position where we make them try and beat us, I feel supremely confident that we walk away from Century Link field 5-0 and put everyone on notice.

Those 30 for 30's are one of the few things espn gets right, i love them.

Was it me or did vince young not really get a fair shake in the nfl?  From what i remember he played well on a bad titans team.  Correct me if im wrong.

bad work ethic. Naturally gifted, but didn't put in the work, and then there was the weight issue. A lot of stuff happened in his personal life too. All in all, he could have been special, but never realized his true potential

Thanks for clearing it up.  Never followed him very close.  Shame he couldnt get it together then.

Pete could've punted the ball to the half inch line and they still wouldn't have stopped Vince Young from winning that rose bowl. He was unstoppable, one of the best performances in the history of football.

Also, he made the right call by giving it to Lindale. Texas hadn't forced a punt once in the 2nd half and couldn't stop white all night.

the heisman rb who avg 10 plus yards a carry and had one of the greatest seasons in the history of college ball......over lendale white....yea your prolly right.

I didn't realize he got all his yards from runs up the middle? he almost always ran to the outside and if it was up the middle it was on some sort of draw or change of pace play

gotta watch this when it hits netflix. this was the game that got me into football. still the best football game ive ever seen.

The only thing that rivals it IMO is the 2013 Iron Bowl, which, given the circumstances, at the very least has one of the greatest moments I've ever seen in sports.

    • I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
    • 1.) LaMelo 2.) Kon 3.} Miller 4.. Giannis 5.) Moose   1.) Coby 2.) ? 3.) Sion 4.) Miles Bridges 5.) Kalk That squad would win multiple chips.
