KK's stats from yesterday

Captain Morgan

I'd love to pay Norman, but this is the next Panther to become Oprah rich.

hopefully we just franchise Norman after this year and try to get him playing at this level next year since he would be on another contract year and then let the Cowboys or someone else overpay for him.

That being said I can't wait until he goes to the Cowboys or Patriots and then the national media will decide to recognize him as the hands down best corner in football.

None of those 3? lol wow, well, Rodgers can scramble like crazy, as can luck, remember, Luck is a white clone of Cam... think about that

Yes, none of those guys can evade like Wilson can.  Luck a clone of Cam?  LOL!  No.  Luck ran a fairly fast 40, but when you watch them move on the football field, there's a vast difference between Cam and Luck.  Rodgers can scramble for some yardage when the D completely dismissed his threat as a potential runner, but he's not a great scrambler otherwise.

Wilson is damn near magical with his scrambling ability and ability to throw on the run.  When you keep him in the pocket, his limitations become obvious, but when he's on the move playing ad lib football he's damn tough to stop.

KK is getting a lot of love from PFF, but Star, my gosh, they have him ranked 158 out of 184 DTs.

Don't understand these low grades AT ALL.

Here are our DT rankings and current season grades as of end of week 6.

 rankoverallrun defpass rushcoverage
Kawann Short 887.483.986.160.5
Kyle Love 7071.174.65960.3
Star Lotulelei 15851.350.15260
Dwan Edwards 17847.34250.361.1

Star's overall grade has decreased each of the weeks he's played:

Week 3:    66.7

Week 4    55.8

Week 6    51.3

Ok, maybe he's not been flashing this season, but I honestly don't see how or why his grades are this low, but I'm no Dline expert, just an average fan...

By contrast, KK's overall PFF grades have increased every week:

Week 1:  68.1

Week 2:  81.2

Week 3:  82.8

Week 4:  84.9

Week 6:  87.4

Maybe the discrepancy between Star & KK is a Gettleman conspiracy with PFF so he only has to pay an elite salary to one of our DTs and he can get Star at a dollar store price!!  LOL.

I don't know how you can quantify Star's production.  Of course, I'm not a statistics nerd, either.  But the eye test says he is doing a lot more than what PFF is grading him.  KK gets a bump because of QB pressures and sacks.  But those pressures and sacks wouldn't be possible if Star wasn't there freeing up everyone else on the line.  You also have to think no one respects our DEs right now, leaving Star with more doubles.  Once we get our full rotation of DEs back, I'd imagine Star will be given a little more room to work with, as opposing lines have to be quick and choose him or CJ/Allen.  Game tape and stats each have their place in football analysis, and Star game fits in the former.

Thank you.  I agree Star is passing the eye test, and I too have been thinking that Star's grunt work is contributing a LOT to KK's excellent grade.  Fortunately, I'm confident our team & coaches know the true value of what Star is doing.

Yes. That's why we saw CJ, Star and Hardy all beast out in 2013. Too many weapons on the d-line to focus on one of them every play. You had to try to scheme around them based on the offensive play call, and then some how get to Luke and TD as well.

While Rodgers and Luck can both move in the pocket well and extend plays moving outside of the pocket neither of them are anywhere near as big of a threat at escaping pressure as Wilson. You can have Wilson dead to rights and slips out and turns it into a 30 yard gain. As good as wilson is at escaping at the last second we still got 4 sacks. Throw any other qb back there in the kind of pressure we generated on Sunday and that number easily doubles.

I got hated on awhile back for even mentioning that it was a possibility that our front office could choose to keep KK over Star if they were forced to choose down the road.  I've always thought KK was a special pass rusher that didnt quite get the recognition he deserved.  I still dont really know who they value more, but I argued that it wasnt as easy of a decision as some of you made it out to be.  The question is, whats harder to find?  A dominant space eater or a dominant pass rusher?
