Andrew Luck- King of Garbage Time TDs

On Sunday, with the Indianapolis Colts down 27-0 to the New Orleans Saints, Andrew Luck threw a touchdown and then another and then one more after that. What had been a terrible day (two interceptions and a shutout) was suddenly a decent one on the stat sheet. But while these passes seemingly got the Colts back into the game, they didn’t really. Indianapolis never had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead after Luck began getting hot. These were purely garbage-time touchdowns, a practice at which Andrew Luck seems quite proficient.

If you look on Twitter, you’ll find a lot of people talking about Andrew Luck getting a lot of touchdown passes that don’t matter. Is this just a misguided reputation like when everyone said Tiki Barber fumbled too much years after he stopped doing so? Luck does have a lot of comebacks after all. Is it an undeserved insult? The anti-Luck patrol has been out in full force this year (a few had been waving red flags for years, others are only jumping on the bandwagon now that Luck is struggling.) This is a convenient talking point to explain away all those TDs.

Didn't feel like posting all of it but there is a nice little chart. Like a third of his TDs come in garbage time. He is Jay Cutler, if Jay Cutler had the worst neck beard in America.

I struggle w/ certain definitions of "garbage" time.  It is like when Cam did a Superman celebration in a defeat.  Media claimed it was garbage time b/c it was a nice way to bash him.  Reality is....it was a game at that point.

Colts vs. Saints.  Colts were down less than a touchdown with 3 minutes left to play.  If they would have forced a punt on NO's last possession they would have had a chance to win the game.    So how is that a garbage time game?

The basis the article was going off of was the scores when the teams were up/down 3 touchdowns. In other words, 30& of Lucks TD cam when he was up/down 3 touchdowns.

Cam has 9 td's and 7 ints with 4 rushing td's

luck has 11 td's with 9 ints

luck missed some time with injury, media is a joke for saying cam is playing a mvp type season but luck sucks I find it funny

I don't agree that Luck "sucks" either. He's not making very good decisions passing the ball though.

Only comparing their basic numbers without looking deeper is fairly pointless.

Newton's interceptions are inflated a little due to inconsistency from our WR's.

Our QB has been carrying his offense with WR's who should be 3rd or 4th options. Luck on the other hand has T.Y. Hilton, and Andre Johnson as his #1, and #2. Both of whom would immediately start as #1 WR's on plenty of teams around the league, including ours. Which of our current top WR's do you think would currently start as #1's on any other team in the NFL?

IMO the most accurate narrative of Andrew Luck is that he plays really, really poorly in games sometimes that causes his team to go into deep holes. He then somehow plays really well later in the game to get his team either out of those holes with a win, or really close to it.

It's actually kind of perplexing.

Luck really has always had a tendency to start games poorly and play better as the game goes.  A lot of his comebacks over the years has been b/c he played poorly and dug his teams out.  He was more consistent in years past.  Luck IMO has always been better late in games than early.

He's basically basically a better The Golden Calf of Bristol.

You compare them as if All of Cams were just bad throws.  How many of his Int's were receiver induced not bad throws.  I know of at least 3.

Luck has been an interception machine since he joined the league.

Yeah he gets on a roll and brings his team back and wins a couple.  (Not that the AFC South is a dominate division)

I defend Cam 90% of the time, but that was so irresponsible and there was no defending that decision. He had thrown 3 bad picks I believe to that point, and contributed to that loss BIG time by just honestly overall playing like poo that night. That's ok, it happens to everyone.

He deserved some flack for that without a doubt. However, media put it on overkill no doubt.

    • I would write “give remmers tight end help” on a yellow sticky note and stuck it in shulas playbook the night before superbowl 50.
    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
