With paragraphs like this:

Questions about maturity dogged Newton for years. But he has largely put that to rest over time, and the Panthers were confident enough to hand him a five-year, $103 million contract extension in the off-season that made him among the highest-paid players in the league.

I'll pass on this article, and had to stop as soon as I read the above paragraph. Just rehashing the "same ole, same ole" regurgitated, hyperbolic nonsense to cover themselves before complimenting.

hillary strikes me as the archetypical power-hungry politician and i can't distinguish her from the establishment of the past 30 years on much of anything besides social issues (and even there she sways with the wind.)

but that's tinderbox fodder

“I think Cam has taken a pretty typical path toward leadership,” tight end Greg Olsen said. “I think he did it naturally. I think he did it both by his play and by the way he does things off the field. I think when you come in as a young player, as he did, with such expectations and such high regard with what he accomplished, first overall pick and all that, obviously there’s a lot of expectation placed on you. He’s done everything and more to surpass those expectations both from his performance and his development into a leadership position.”

Because the truth of the matter, the only expectations that need to be raised are ours. The only standard we need to play to is ours. The thing that you have to be careful about is the outside noise. People are going to talk — ‘16-0, 19-0!’ So that’s one of the things you try to tell everybody: ‘Hey, manage the expectations.’

“I think we’ve gone through enough in my five seasons here that certain things we’re able to cope and deal with.”

Worth the read.  Thanks for the link.

Have I mentioned I love this team?

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
