Historical data on undefeated NFL teams

Doing a little bit of digging to see how the final 3 unbeaten's stack up in history(Super Bowl Era) and other random tidbits. Figured I share as some of you may find this interesting as well. Some info has undoubtedly been stated on here before but wanted to be thorough.

  • First time in history in NFL has seen 3, 8-0 teams in one season.
  • Last time there was multiple 8-0 teams in the NFL, they faced off in the Superbowl. Colts and Saints(2009 season)
  • There has been up to 2, 10-0 teams in 1 season (1990 Giants and Niners. Giants won the NFC championship game over the Niners and went on become Super Bowl champs)
  • 14 franchises have made it to 9-0 or better. The colts/Manning have done 3 times. Dolphins, Vikings and Chiefs have done it twice as well.
  • This is New England's 2nd best start in their franchise history.
  • The longest undefeated streak in the NFC South is held by New Orleans in 2009 (13-0). They lost their last 3 regular season but went on to win the Superbowl.
  • The Falcons also have an 8-0 start under their belt as well (2012). They finished 13-3 overall in the regular season. Then lost the NFC Championship game.
  • No NFC team has gone 14-0 in the regular season.
  • We have 8 common opponents with New England this season (NFC East and AFC South).
  • We are 2-2-1 all time against the Bengals, We are 3-4 all time against the Patriot's. Both of us are undefeated at home vs the other. Regular season we are even, the Superbowl win gives them the overall edge.

We are up first for the remaining unbeaten's tomorow. Our game is at 1 PM, the Patriots follow us at 4:25 and the Bengals play the Texans on Monday Night.

Something else I found kind of interesting is Tom Coughlin is 5-1 head to head vs Belichick. 3-1 in Giants vs Patriot's, including the last 3 games in a row (2 of which were Super Bowls). They play tomorrow in NEW YORK,  NEW Jersey.

Please add any related stats, tidbits, etc. that you have found.

A few weeks ago, I looked at Atlanta's schedule and figured it would be tough to win the South--they do not play teams like Green Bay and Seattle.

Now I am hoping we can take the home--field advantage.  We have Dallas, Atlanta x 2, the Giants and the Saints in New Orleans.  I think we must win the Titans and Redskins games first, making us 10-0--then if we stumble in a few of the games mentioned above, we should be OK.

I'm so glad to be able to share these good times with you guys. Looking around my house I have a Giants fan, a dog who gets excited when I look at her, a judgemental Bengal, a kitten who assumes its time to attack, a warmblood who maintains his French stereotype, and a thoroughbred who is more like a dog.

But I did have some sports show on yesterday and they were saying out of 140 teams that lost six in a row only one has made the playoffs and they haven't lost a regular season game since then

    • And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth
    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
