Last night a good thing for us?

I was expecting the cowgirls to get the calls more than anyone this week.  We had some horrible calls late in the Greenbay and Indy games combined with the Cam vs official early this season.  PLUS you figure Goodell would LOVE to see the almighty Romo come in and knocks us down leading the girls to the playoff hunt.

After last night the more I think the Cowboys won't be getting all the favored calls we expect.

1.  Even though Romo and the Cowboys had one of the biggest fan bases out there.  There are a Ton of people that have jumped on the Cam bandwagon, the comparison to Lebron in that aspect is real.  See ESPN having him on directly following the Pats MNF football game while doing his charity thanksgiving dinner.  Not sure Goodell wants him dropping down in the NVP race right now.

2. The biggest one.  The blown calls in last night game, including the Phantom blowing the play dead.  The media has been ALL over this today.  For them to follow that up with the National thanksgiving game (which has about the biggest audience outside the conference title games and the superbowl) to come down to questionable calls, would look very very bad on Goodell.

Oddly enough I think this could be one of the more fairly officiated games we've had all season.

a lot depends on which crew we get. some throw flags against the home team more (hochuli) and others favor the home team.

it's amazing, though, how many calls refs make at just the right time to keep games going. it's really hard not to believe that this isn't encouraged by the league to make them more interesting. plus some teams get more calls in favor of them. this is obvious. and we've had proof that some players get shown favoritism and others get discriminated against because "they aren't old enough."

True but with as much scrutiny as they are getting from everyone today.  Think the last thing Goodell wants is them to blow something or something to come down to any questionable call on one of the biggest NFL days in front of the national stage.

We've got Ron Torbert calling our game.  Hochuli has the GB-Chi game Thursday night.

The Gene Steratore crew that screwed up last night did our game vs. Green Bay. I wonder how they could call that screwed up GB INT which Ginn knocked loose on the sideline with 3:30 minutes left in our game, yet call the Bills catch that the WR caught inbounds with 1 knee down an incompletion.

Gave Green Bay one and tried to give New England one. I don't have hope we'll get a fair game called vs. Dallas

they've been under scrutiny all year and it doesn't seem to matter. bad calls that change the course of the game (or that could) happen every week. i just don't see that being any different on thanksgiving day. the cowboys are america's team supposedly. people riding their nuts annually want to see a romo led team make a comeback and win this game against a team that shouldn't be 10-0. i think it's entirely possible that the refs make real time decisions with this in mind. but i also believe that refs are incredibly biased individuals towards certain players at and teams and that shows up. i also believe that many are too easily swayed by the home crowd while others try to keep the game balanced by calling them in favor of the away team.

Even Roger Goodell called out the officiating, even before the game. Said the crews were way too inconsistent in enforcing the rules. It's becoming this huge come to Jesus meeting.

Hope Goodell does like Reagan did with the air traffic controllers. Just fire them all and kill that union. It's given the refs the idea they control who wins and there's not a damn thing the NFL can do about it after the replacement ref controversy. Waaaaaayyy too much power in their hands that's not balanced by accountability.

Fire them all after the Super Bowl and hire full-time replacements that get year round training and evaluations. Letting them be part-timers is killing the public's trust in the parity message the league wants the consumer to believe in.

This is the only thing I believe when it comes to ref "conspiracies".  Pivotal holding and illegal contact penalties come all too often on drives that could put the game away early for one team or the other.  Particularly in marquee matchups, I believe the refs have been encouraged to put a finger on the scale to keep things close.  These are the types of penalties they could call on practically any play, so there's already reasonable subjectivity built-in.  The NFL would be crazy to attempt significant tampering with their product, and they would likely face lots of unwanted lawsuits if any hard evidence was found that indicated intent to influence outcome.  I'm not a lawyer so I don't know if those suits would have any merit, but you better believe they'd come flying in.  On the other hand, it would be real simple and good for the game (in excecutives' eyes) if refs were just aware that they should "do their best to call the game fairly and as the rules are written...but if a few calls help keep a matchup interesting, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world."  The first part would be their official stance.  The second part is the unwritten knowledge.  Kinda like how people at an office might know that circumventing certain rules that are inconvenient for their company is actually good for their career.  They don't have to be directly told to know they should do it.

Edit for clarity:  I think they other stuff you mentioned still happens, but that's just because reffing is hard, and a lot of them are bad at it to begin with - not because it's encouraged by the NFL.  However, the NFL definitely doesn't have high enough standards for its refs, so these mishaps due to either incompetence or personal ref bias (like Hochuli vs. Cam) are allowed to persist.

I agree with this and they also need to clarify the more egregiously violated rules... like what the hell is a catch anymore?!
