Wow.  WHAT. A. WIN.

The stats & superlatives are going to be LONG from this game.  There are many.   Unfortunately I have VERY VERY little time in the next few days.  Very busy work week before I get on a plane and head to Charlotte before Christmas...

So this may be a very short thread.  But there are a lot of others picking of the slack.  There are already some good posts here with key stats from today's win.  But I'll post a few things of interest tonight.

Best stat of all 13-0.  A new level of victory for the Panthers.  No Panthers team has ever won 13 regular season games.  So, that's something pretty special.  As was the shutout.  Don't think we've ever shut out a division rival?  But I could be wrong on that.

Oh, and yeah, we've locked up a bye, so THERE'S GONNA BE PLAYOFF FOOTBALL IN CHARLOTTE ON JAN 17!!   YES!!!!

Thanks for the early Christmas present Panthers!  Love this team.  Stay healthy, heal up, Keep Pounding.

Scott Fowler has a really nice column at the Observer this evening.  I think he once again captures well the heart & essence of this team and a "non-quantifiable" key to today's victory:

READ IT ALL - it's really worth reading.

Unlike last week, when the Panthers had to rally several times to win at New Orleans, this game was never scary for Carolina from a scoring standpoint. The scares came because of injuries.

At one point or the other, six different Carolina stars – Newton, linebacker Luke Kuechly, tight end Greg Olsen, running back Jonathan Stewart, kicker Graham Gano and linebacker Thomas Davis – were checked out by the doctors or the training staff for possible injuries. All six of them seemed OK after the game, but nickel cornerback Bené Benwikere was lost for the rest of the season with a fractured leg. That will force another roster adjustment in the Carolina secondary.

But one of the most impressive parts of Sunday’s evisceration of the Falcons was the way the Panthers reserves stepped in for injured starters when necessary.

  • Newton went out for one play after slightly hurting his left hand, and backup Derek Anderson stepped in and threw a 24-yard pass.
  • When Olsen went out, backup tight end Ed Dickson made a dazzling catch for a touchdown.
  • When Stewart went out, backup running back Fozzy Whittaker had a 16-yard touchdown.
  • When Kuechly went out, backup linebacker A.J. Klein immediately came in and caused a fumble.

Good question.  I immediately thought of a shutout against tb but that was in 96 before we were in the same division.

So i did the research and found that this was our 7th shutout (in 346 games total counting playoffs for 2% of our games).  New orleans in 1997 was the only other one in a division game.

2015 - vs atl 38 -0

2013 - vs nyg 38-0

2008 - vs kc 34-0

2006 - vs stl 15-0

2005 - @nyg (playoffs) 23-0

1997 - @no 13-0

1996 - tb 13-0

I'm hearing a lot of excuses and not a lot of sticktoitiveness.  #keeppounding

Here's an update on the history of other teams who started 13-0:

Panthers became 8th team to start 13-0 in Super Bowl era. Among other 7:

--All made playoffs.

--5 went to Super Bowl.

--3 won Super Bowl.

Only 3? Kind of surprising really. Here's hoping we can make it 4.
